blended families are not the reality and that the adult relationship has to come first??? He's finally getting it that non "intact" families are a completely different animal than the nuclear family dynamic???!! It was one from last Friday about signing a postnup.

Both their third marriage for each. He's a cop with four kids from a previous relationship and the SM has three late teen/early twenties kids from her previous relationship.

Very well put, stepinafrica. I see step-parenting as one of the last prejudices. For some reason, when there is all of this "controversy" over whether or not SM should be with her husband at a step-child's wedding or in the back of the church, I always think about how African-Americans were told to sit in the back of the bus at one time in America. They weren't supposed to take any offense by that, either.
