Having gone through liver/colon cancer with my ExH's mom, it's a good sign the Dr told you he was sure it wasn't malignant. In my experience the Drs don't try to give hope unless they are very certain they can. And I am also pretty sure your mother will now realize she can't put off urgent symptoms hoping they just go away. Even if something isn't malignant, a bowel obstruction is nothing to take lightly (not news to you I'm sure Ms RN!)

So love her and hold her as she recovers, then give her a talking to!
