Dear Valued Users,
It's with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of StepTalk.org on August 31st, 2025.
This decision wasn't an easy one. For over twenty years, StepTalk has been a source of support for stepparents around the world! However, over the years, the costs associated with maintaining and upgrading the site to remain secure, meet current standards and maintain availability have become unsustainable.
We are incredibly grateful for your support, contributions and the community you've helped us build. Your engagement has made StepTalk.org a special place and we cherish the memories and connections made here.
We would especially like to thank Aniki for volunteering to be a moderator and for caring so much.
Thank you for being a part of our journey and we wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Dawn and The StepTalk Team

I need some recommendations
I need some recommendations too!!
I've used SecureTeen before, and it does pretty well, although very tech savy SS14 bypassed it somehow. DH had to threaten to get rid of the phone if he didn't leave it on there...
But it has filtering for web content, and you can approve certain websites if it blocks something unecessarily. Also it has GPS locator (worked well for us when SS14 decided to NOT GET OFF THE DANG BUS and had no idea where he was). It can monitor social media stuff, but you need to have the kids login and password info for that. It tracks all text messages to and from the phone too...but not if they use another texting app like KIK or something.
I think it was like $40 for a year, and you could have up to 3 devices
We got a recommendation for
We got a recommendation for Norton Family but it looks like (based on reviews) there are a few issues. I appreciate any suggestions and objective reviews like ksmom provided.
I just looked around a bit
I just looked around a bit and found Familoop for android, looks like it's pretty good, has good ratings
I guess it kind of depends what you're looking for and how many devices and what kind you need monitored
the MMGuardian looks really good, but it's different software for a tablet vs. a phone and I need one that does both.
I use Life 360 for GPS. My DD
I use Life 360 for GPS. My DD forgets that it is on
It alerts when she leaves home and school. When she is out, it will pinpoint her location accurately to the point I can see where she is in the shopping complex.
There's an app that can download the last 2 weeks of texts, pic, videos. I'll get the name fr4DH and send to you.
