The Secret Is Wine
And lots of it! I just discovered how to get through a PIL visit, effortlessly and painlessly: stay sloshed on wine at all times. My MIL is a wine fan, so I got a huge bottle and was Mrs. Drunky McSlosherson all weekend. It made everything so much better! I just smiled a bunch and clutched my giant wine goblet to my chest at all times. I'm not much of a drinker and usually prefer to be alert in social/family situations, but this weekend I wanted to keep a pleasant
win-ey haze over everything. The skids going nuts over lots of attention and sugar didn't even bother me.
I'm happy i've finally learned The Secret. }:)

I wish I could do
I wish I could do that....DH's grandpa & mom both has issues with substance abuse (alcohol and pills) so none is allowed in their presence

Oh man, I understand. I've got a sister with a history of alcohol problems and I can't drink in front of her at all. I don't want to trigger anything and she's been sober for over two years. very proud of her! Substance abuse can be just horrible, I was saying to H today how glad I am that his parents don't have any problems with that. They definitely like their drinks and when we visit I have a glass of chilled wine placed in my hand within five minutes of arriving. Sometimes Stepmama needs a drinky! Moderation is the key and as H always points out, I am a cheap and easy drunk because I hardly ever drink! Definitely serious stuff if there are problems and I am extremely grateful that we don't have to add alcoholic to BMs list of faults. Fortunately, she seems to be free of addictions, although she goes to the bars a lot (to meet sleazy barflies, I presume). Her whole family has massive addiction problems so i'm happy that my skids lucked out and she isn't one of them...H and I make a big effort to model responsible behavior since alcoholism and drug abuse runs in their family on their moms side.

I don't think BM has alcohol
I don't think BM has alcohol problems, although she is a drinker, but she had a drug problem that got her kids taken away and landed her with a felony conviction...she's an ass. LOL
