Does your Skid ask dumb/random questions?

SisterNeko's picture

Mine does. I tell FDH about it all the time and it's weird because he only seems to ask me these crazy things. Most of which I realize comes from BM and to stupid things that she does.

This week it's all about surprises. Which oddly enough aren't surprises if you have to ask for them. Monday he asked...

"SisterNeko, was I good last time I was here?"

"Yeah, you were okay. Why?"

"Are you going to get me a surprise?"

"Um... no."

"Why not, I was good right?"

"Yeah, but I like to be random."

"What does random mean?"

"It means I like to do thing with no set pattern, just here and there for no apparent reason."

"Oh"

Then on Tuesday it was...

"If I am good this week do I get a surprise?"

"No"

"Why not?"

"Because I am not going to reward you for something that you should do anyway." - in my head I was thinking because if you bad I will 'beat' you. lol

I know it's because BM buys him something every time they go back to her house for whatever reason. But that is her choice to waste the money, the last time SS6 asked for a toy I told him no because he doesn't play with the ones that he has. Plus if I were going to reward him for being good he would have to be a lot better than he is, OMG last time he was here he was SO whining and annoying. And if he isn't good at our house he will be punished for being bad.

And is it just me or is it rude that he would even ask that?

A few weeks ago he asked me...

"SisterNeko, what are we going to sell?"

"What?"

"Yeah, we need to sell something so that we can have money."

"We have money."

"We need more, we should have a yard sale like we did last summer."

"That wasn't about money it was about getting rid of some junk (that BM left behind)"

"Oh, so we aren't selling anything?"

"No, we aren't."

Come to find out that BM sold her hubby's ATV because they needed money and didn't use it. Now she has her eyes on his Snowmobile. Poor guy can't have anything.

Any way I was wonder if it was just me - please share if it's not. Smile

VERY well put! my family almost puked when i mentioned another child, because sd is horrible and bd5 has disabilities...its like wtf i cant have more kids cause sd and bd have issues?

hun, ALOT of us on here know that u are venting on here and act differently at home. we all do it. this is a place to vent. we are all pretty much competent enough to know NOT to do/say most of the shit we put on here...

kudos to u my friend!

You know that the people who follow your posts and know your TRUE situation have your back, like always. You should be sainted for even attempting to fix what the piss-poor BM mucked up for this little boy.

Disneyfan's picture

Those aren't rude or silly questions. He just has to learn that each house is ran differently.

He's also learning that people may do identical things but for different reasons. (Yard sale)

Lol, we used to get that a lot.... But more random.

My skids would ask total randomness that they knew the answers to just because they wanted to say something to get the attention on them.

peanut, when I grow.... Do I get bigger or smaller?

Peanut, what is a whale?

Peanut, what color is this?

All of these gems came when they were six and seven.

Now I get CONSTANT "what are you doing?" When its plainly obvious that I am folding laundry/loading the dish washer/making dinner/reading ect. These kids just talk for the sake of talking.

Or they walk in the room, say hi..... You say hi back.... They say bye, you say bye and they walk out again. Or sometimes its hi, I love you, bye from SS. And they will say it individually to each and every person in the room. It's so weird.

Hi mommy, hi SS...hi daddy, hi son.... Hi bs, hi brother........ Bye mommy, bye SS, bye daddy, bye son..... bye bs, bye brother. Then he walks out.

Thing is, these questions coming from my SS would irritate me to no end. Coming from my kids, they would make me laugh. It's about the delivery and the deliverer. I'm not in denial about my feelings. My kids are just more tolerable and therefore it's easier to deal with. I like them more and think they are better human beings than SS, so I cut them slack. Sorry, it's true. (for me anyway)
Double standard, yes. One standard for my awesome kids, and another for one who's not awesome. So what.

duct_tape's picture

BTW, when my kids are acting not so awesome, I'm harder on them than my SS my freakin' miles. Because I know they will still love my after the punishment has been served.

I get stupid responses to valid questions.
And she brings up the most ignorant stuff to talk about. If her dad and I are having a grownup convo.. she'll interrupt with "hey, what kind of apple is that?". Now this might be in the middle of us discussing something that has nothing to do with apples whatsoever!!!

I try to treat the sd12 like I do my own kids. When they ask stupid questions, you're not doing them any favors by patronizing them.
I would straight out say.. well, things are different in everyone's house. Some ppl eat their eggs not done and some ppl like them all done. Some ppl like their steaks well done, some like them not. It's a matter of teaching kids tolerance of something that is different from them.
That seems to be where we have issues with sd12. She thinks that her bm has a golden brain as well as a golden uterus.. as well as her stepdad. They can say no wrong.
My bf takes great pleasure in correcting his daughter when she repeats stupid shit that we can tell is straight from their mouths!!
7 is not too old to start talking about how ppl do things differently. Just bc mommy does it like this at her house, doesn't mean that it's like that everywhere.
Still some questions are so stupid they don't deserve an answer.
Like: are you spending the night?.. when you are standing there brushing your teeth at 11pm in your pajamas.

Ya think??

My SD does the Apple thing all the time. She can't stand it when she isn't the center of all conversation. If Dh and I are talking she will interupt constantly with stuff about herself.....daddy, did you see my belt?........ The pizza at school is square........ My friend at school went to chuckie cheese last weekend. All in a conversation that had nothing to do with belts, pizza or chuckie cheese. It kills her to not be the center of attention at all times.

I guess I get that he is curios and I try to be nice with my responses.

Here is another question - at what age do/should little boys understand the differences between boys and girls or at least that they are different (maybe not the details)?

SS6 (almost 7) doesn't seem to understand that I am not like him. I had to give him a bath the other night cuz FDH was working late and I handed him the washrag and asked him to wash his 'guy parts'. He asked me where his 'guy parts' were. I told him his 'winkie' as he calls it and then he asked me if I HAD 'guy parts' I just said no, I have 'girl parts' because I am a girl. Yesterday he nailed me in the crotch with a snowball (we had a snowball fight) and he yelled at the the top of his lungs that he got me in the 'winkie'. Again I just said that I don't have one of those because I am a girl. Even weirder is up until last year BM still showered with him! You would think he would have asked her were her 'winkie' was - lol.

PeanutandSons's picture

My son is 2 and he has a firm grasp on boys vs girls and why they are different, and has for a while. Boys have qui-quis (penis) and ding-dongs (nipples, he used to push them like a door bell and go ding dong when he was an infant, lol)...... And girls have girl qui-quis and boobers (what he called my breasts when he breastfed).

SisterNeko's picture

that is funny. I told FDH that he needs to address it as PG rated as he can but he should know that I am different - which applies to BM as well. The boobers - i love it. I struggle with SS6 because I am 'bigger' than BM and I think that he thinks those are pillows for him to snuggle into when he hugs me. lol

sd13's infamous question:

how old will i be when u are ....

how old was i when.....

how old were u when i was.....

all. the. time. even now at 13 she will still do this...its like get a fuckin calculater!!!!!!!!!

PeanutandSons's picture

Ahhhhg! My skids do that all the time and it drives me insane.

how old will bs be when I am 15?

How old will you be when I am 16?

How old will I be in 9th grade?

How old will daddy be when I am 25?

And my favorite ever is How old will I be when SS/SD is XX? Well you two are a year apart, take half a second and think about it!

SD11 talks just to hear herself...she thinks when she is talking that everyone is blessed to hear what is coming out of her mouth. MIL and DH perhaps but everyone else thinks she must have a learning disability to still say the off the wall crap she comes up with just to be annoying and overbearing.

"SD11 talks just to hear herself...she thinks when she is talking that everyone is blessed to hear what is coming out of her mouth"

LOL My SD8 is like that too! Whenever I'm trying to watch TV or cook supper, she'll always grace me with her presence and ask question after question after question - and not GOOD questions, either! The other weekend, I was watching TV when she just starts blathering on about stupid random things that I don't give a shit about. She couldn't stop either; she always went from one topic to another to another. I ahd to bite my tongue from telling her to shut the fuck up! On another weekend, the SKIDS were crowding me at the stove talking/asking about supper (I swear, all they care about at our house is when supper is going to be and what it is) while I'm trying to talk to FH. It got so bad that I literally threatened to stop cooking until they left the kitchen - and they left quickly! Even FH gets fed up with the stupid questions/statements. The SKIDS are 8 and 10 but you'd think they were 1 and 3! Honestly!

You can't fix STUPID!

bi's picture

yes, always. she used to always ask anytime we were getting ready to go anywhere, "are you going too, sm?" well why the hell wouldn't i be going? i don't know if she was hopeful that i would be staying home or what. she wasn't little either, we're talking teenager here. she knew i worked 3rd shift sun-thur nights. when she was here thru the week, she would ask me every single night if i had to work. yes sd, i do. i have the same schedule all the time. my favorite thing was how she would panic if fdh stepped out of her sight, she would come to me all freaked out "where's my dad????!!!!!" um, in the f'g bathroom. then she would stand outside the bathroom door, and say "dad? are you pooping?" again, she was like 14-17 when all this was going on.

she still blurts out some pretty ignorant crap, but i don't see her much so it's not an every day irritation anymore.
