Little Boys and Missing the Toilet

Shadow79's picture

Oh. My. Goodness.... the smell of urine from the bathroom is RIDICULOUS! I have talked to them over and over and over about trying hard to aim. I know that sometimes, especially when you first start going, you can get a random spray. BUT, this is like in the garbage can, a giant puddle behind the toilet, in front of the toilet. I have had them clean it, I have had them sit (which they don't keep doing unless I monitor it, but there are 4 of them, I can't do that). I am over it. I refuse to clean it up and have been making SO do it. I only have one son and never in his life had a mess like this EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! Any suggestions?

Nothing worked until I got a tub of Lysol wipes and made whoever was nearby clean up the spills. Worked like a charm. No one wanted to clean it up so their aim got a lot better.

they are okay cleaning up someone else’s pee? Cause there’s no guarantee they are cleaning just their own.

Boys never learn. I have lived with two guys before DH and now I live with him and SS. I smelled pee this weekend in SS bathroom because he got it somewhere. All men no matter how old miss at some point and it smells.

Best of luck.

OH MY GOODNESS....NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo do not let them stand up. Think about it, you are stepping in it. IF you use the bathroom.

No. No. No. My DH hasn't missed in the 14 years I've lived with him! Some guys are housebroken.

tell them to sit down when they go potty.

We have boys---no yuck on the floors.

True story.

Here is another true story. One of the places I worked at my boss was the best and he was also gay. He threw a party for his friends over the weekend and HAD A FIT when he walked in after a guy who stood UP using his bathroom.  He made the guy go back and clean up his floor. His rules are SIT DOWN to use his toilet.

A urinal is one thing but unless you have one,,,SIT DOWN or YOU will clean it up.

Most blue collared "rugged" types look at it as an affront to their manhood to be asked to sit down and pee!!

Cheap Barbasol brand shaving cream gets rid of the smell and cleans the grout.  My oldest son has a minor stream issue due to having his circumscision done incorrectly. He is in charge of cleaning the toilet and surround when he forgets to adjust his stance.  It cuts into his gaming time and that bothers him, so it doesn't happen very often.

We tell our boys: One day you will be married...Ladies DO NOT want to smell that, step in IT or see yellow dots on the toilet OR anywhere else.

Some goes for girls personal items....you better NOT Just toss something in the trash unless it is wrapped up. Ewwww, that too is a huge no no in our house.  Does anyone remember "belts" lol

There sure is a lot of micromanaging of how males pee in this thread! I'd be furious at my DH if he instructed me on how I had to use the toilet. Just have them clean up if they miss the bowl.

For the record, DH never misses and SS never did either.  If DH missed, he'd clean it up.

Don't ge me started on the physics of standing up to pee. Splashback and all, just gross.

We've been having that issue lately with ss... he's going through a phase right now I think - he's dribbling on the seat... fogetting to flush... putting the lid down and forgetting to wash his hands...

I call him on it IMMEDIATELY when I see/hear/know it, and he's good about cleaning it up... especially now that I hand hand him a Lysol wipe and make him go wipe down all the doorhandles and everything else he may have touched since exiting the bathroom...

Tried many things to get him to remember, or to at least clean it up... we don't force him to urinate in any particular position, but it's a house rule that it you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie wipe the seatie...

We have 3 bathrooms in the house, and I generally use the basement one because it has a walk in shower and heated floors... ss doesn't use that one... so it rarely smells of anything. Drives me absolutely LIVID when I get up in the morning and rush to the bathroom outside my bedroom just to sit on a closed lid... or in wet spots... GROSS.
