Vewry upset with the school right now!
My son has aspbergers and he has been lazy in some of his classes lately. My son said that they want to put him in a special program but wants me to send them proof that he has this. So anyway I tell my son that he is not going in a program that will reduce his load or give him special treatment just b/c of this. I told him that life will not give him special treatment and he needs to figure out a way to cope and to stop being LAZY! Just b/c he has this does not mean he gets a free pass but he needs to work harder and find ways that work for him.
I told him to have the school call me. He told them what I said and they choose not to call me but dropped the whole thing. I called them but the person I need to talk to is not there but should call me tomorrow.
Why did they not call me and want to talk to me about this but wanted to talk only when they thought I would put him in this program? I am really disappointed that they were only interested in talking to about the program and nothing more.

I was thinking the very same
I was thinking the very same thing. It was a teacher that said taht to him which is the teacher for the class he is being lazy in. They were saying he was failing it but he just had to give a speech and he was just being too lazy to give it properly. She was taking it as him having aspbergers was his only problem with it. It may be that he was having trouble b/c of this however he needs to figure a way to make it work on his own so that he can learn coping skills for the future instead of being told well we just won't worry about you doing this way.
ME and dh have both sat him down and explained to him that if he gets a job that he has to give speeches or something to that effect that he is not good at he needs to find a way to help himself over come what is holding him back. B/c his boss will not say ok well then we will do this way just b.c YOU can't do it this way. His boss will just find someone who can do it.
I think that he needs to know how the real world will treat him which is not to give him a pass just b/c he has aspbergers!
Thanks mustang and yes he has
Thanks mustang and yes he has been in this school since the 5th grade you would think that they would know by now the way he is. Plus no one called me to talk to me about anything and it went through my son. I would think that if the teacher or anyone else thought there was a problem that they should have called me? Son did say he wasn't the only one having a few problems but after I made him practice all night he aced it today. Then he told me when I picked him up that it is amazing what a little studying can do. i told him up I hope you can remember this. That all he needed was a kick in the rear! Not any special treatment!
It's about test scores,
It's about test scores, school ratings, etc. If a kid has any excuse to explain lower scores (autism, aspergers, etc) then they try to get the student in a program because those kids can qualify for an alternate test and this not affect the school's test scores.
Why the hell is the school
Why the hell is the school using your kid as the intermediary?
These idiots that teach our kids and administrate our schools are just that, idiots. Why on earth they think a kid will remember to tell a parent to call the school or tell the parent that the kid is in trouble at school is beyond me.
Of course there are some good ones out there but every year they seem fewer and farther between.
The schools used to mail reports to the house and call if the kid was screwing up or misbehaving. Now it is "go home and tell your parents to call me because you are misbehaving". And here, take this report card home to you parents. What kid is going to knowingly get them self in trouble by telling a parent that the teacher says I am misbehaving or take home a bad report card.
What happened to teachers who got to work an hour or two before the kids got to class and stayed late to grade papers, help the kids with material and were available for parents? That was back when a school day was 8hrs and not the 5-6hrs it is now. And that includes LUNCH!
No the hell wonder why our kids are performing at the absolute bottom of the international math and science scale. The really scary part is that they also have little empathy for anyone but themselves and this after 15-20yrs of empathy focus by the schools and teachers.
Give me a school where the teachers walk the halls between classes with a paddle and smack some kid ass when the kids are screwing around. Give me a school where kids are expected and required to do their homework and when they don't they stand at the front of the room for a week taking notes and don't get to sit at a desk. Give me a school that teaches actual math instead of new man which is a F-in waste of time. Give me a school that will actually fail the kids when they FAIL! Give me a school where the kids that are a distraction for the other kids are removed from teh classroom FOR GOOD! Give me a school that has only academics as its sole concern and not development of the "complete" child, whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. Give me a school where kids are required to read aloud in class in support of the lessons where they will have some motivation to actually learn to read and speak eloquently instead of sounding like an idiot.
Give me, give me, give me. Damn I am needy.
The really sick thing is that most parents don't participate at all. Your kid is fortunate to have you.
He test very well on those
He test very well on those just that he gets side tracked a lot. Plus if it doesn't interest him he doesn't care in the slightest. I have to kick him in his rear to get his attention that is all. When he was younger it was really bad. But as time went on I was able to teach him how to do things and figure it out on his own and yes he has ton work harder and focus more but he can do it.
The school just wanted to put him somewhere where they didn't have to deal with him b/c he does things different the others. But he is very smart and I have been told by a lot of people in the professional world that he just needs help unleashing his brain.
