Is what DH just IMed me with.

Guess who just joined the ranks of the unemployed?

BM.

Her DH makes $75k/year, they have a $280k house, $20k in furniture on credit, and two car payments.

My heart started pounding - we are sooooo screwed. BM is going to look around and latch onto DH as income. *&^*%%&^%&*!!!!

BM didn't do it voluntarily, it's the economy.

Unfortunately, there's NO hiding DH's income - he's military, and it's all spelled out. He actually makes more than BM's DH, although she doesn't know it yet.

We're setting out a plan of action. DH heard about it from SD14, NOT BM, so maybe she'll go out and get another job.

If BM is reasonable, we'll try for a modification based on DH's income and her potential income - it'll still go up a couple hundred dollars a month.

If BM gets nasty about, "You're going to pay more CS because I said so!" we (I) lean on her DH, offering to take the troublesome (full of the Devil and manipulative, according to both of them) teenager off their hands.

If it comes down to scorched earth, get the best lawyer out there, and go for custody AND CS. We have the cash to afford it.

Just to add, the unemployment rate in her city is well under the national average - right at 5% if the local rag (from July of this year) can be believed.

Here's hoping she just gets another job, dammit.

We have no idea. It was always "None of your f&%&ing business!!!"

BM doesn't have the greatest job history - she's always HAD a job, but stays a year or so before quitting or getting laid off. She was at this one for a year; she quit the last one to move with her DH. She appears to have stayed in the same kind of administrative field, so I'm guessing $30k-$40k/year.
