BM wants account information?
Fmil has been getting texts and phone calls the last couple of days from BM asking for SDs bank account information. She claims she needs this information for food stamps?
Im just wondering if we actually have to give it to her because the account is under FMIL and SO's name, SD is only 2 and she can't access any funds in there until she is 18. She and we can deposit money into her account whenever but she can't take any out until then. How is this information any of BMs business? I hardly see how our account that we've set up for SD has anything to do with BMs foodstamps? Anyone have any experience with this type of thing?

They want her bank account
They want her bank account information they would need your SD. I would just say we closed it and avoid any other drama.
They DO NOT NEED IT!!! Food
They DO NOT NEED IT!!! Food stamps is an income based program. Meaning they would only need children's SS numbers and the INCOME that BM receives (job, if she has one, child support, and Spouse support). BM is saying that to get her hands on the money.
If she insists have FMIL say I will go with you and talk to them in person, I promise BM will change her story.
that's what i was thinking
that's what i was thinking about it being an income-based program.
but how could BM get her hands on the money with the acct number?
acct number's generally aren't too private...they are all over checks.
Many years ago, I was FS and
Many years ago, I was FS and my grandma had opened accounts for each one of my kids that they cannot touch until they are 21. I have no access to these. All she had to do was write a note stating that, and a copy of their account statement with all the account info blacked out. So it pretty much only had the kids name, her name, and the amount and the bank name.
But, since this is BM I would just have FMIL send a note to them and let them know if they have any questions they can feel free to call her.
hmmm...i don't see why. it
hmmm...i don't see why. it might be worth checking, call the state and find out why this info would be needed. i'm not sure giving an account number would be too detrimental. we have an acct for SDs and only DH is allowed to take money out of it. nobody else.
Ummm the only thing I can
Ummm the only thing I can think of is them needing it for income check. If you have any assets then they usually check but they have never checked our bank account and unless Sd is the one applying for food stamps then they wouldnt need hers anyway. I would just tell her next time she asks to have them send you paperwork stating why. Just for proof. Or call your local Department of Social Services and they should be able to tell you if this is a normal thing they do.
if she has custody of the
if she has custody of the child it wont be hard for her to get it. my sbrother's mom found out my gpa set up an account under his name and sbrother's name, showed the decree to the bank and CLEANED IT OUT out from under gpa's feet, no one had any clue til he got the statement, was nothing he could do
close the account and open a new one that does not have child name on it and just give her the cash at 18
wow spunkie that is MESSED
wow spunkie that is MESSED UP. Yeah, I definitely don't want her to have that information, definitly going to have SO ask for her case workers info, if this really is the case. Thanks a ton guys! SO says thanks too lol
She does not need to have
She does not need to have that information if it is based off your name your family household. All they need is her base income from her home. I would tell her no! If she wants to throw a fit tell her to get court order! Which she cant indeed afford if she needs food stamps.
That's bullshit ... they do
That's bullshit ... they do NOT need it.
omg I didn't even think about
omg I didn't even think about that. Thanks for the heads up I will def. have SO look into that, thank you
