OT: Baby Boy Kitty

Cover1W's picture

And here we go again.

Baby girl kitty departed in November last year and now her brother's kidney problems are getting worse. I knew this back in March and vet said 3-6 months. It's been 5; decided to get another blood test done from the mobile vet (thanks for her existence) and talk with her about options, esp. since we're leaving on a week long vacation soon....same situation as when Baby girl crashed. Sad

He's doing super well, getting a little slower here and there but is generally happy. She's concerned that his levels are getting worse as he's a little dehydrated and based on the March levels alone, we're going to start a subQ treatment a couple times a week. She showed me how today and it wasn't bad but the poor thing was so scared he was trembling (he's had this done before too - once he saw the needle he was shaking) but about 30 seconds later he was back with us for more loves and is doing good now. He'll also get another med on top if it too.

As long as he's happy, eating, drinking, still asking to play I consider it good, even with more care starting.

I don't expect him to live much more than another month or two and that has me super sad as he's the sweetest love cat on the planet. He's also told this every single day.

Sad

Sorry to hear about your kitty. They know how much we love them and that's what counts... doesn't make it easier on us though.

Aw, Cover,

Poor You! Only pet owners understand the grief that we endure when are darlings are heading for the Rainbow Bridge. Hurts the heart. Lots of ((((HUGS)))) heading your way!

I had a kitty, Bear, who needed subQ fluids. He hated the needles, too, but I always talked to him lovingly in a low voice and gave him a treat when we were done. He never like it, but no longer trembled.

oooh so sorry to hear he is having these problems.  Our pets can be such an important part of our lives and it seems so unfair we don't get to have them with us longer.  Prayers for him to feel as good as possible for as long as possible

My late beloved Sheba had kidney issues toward the end of her life and I had to do the subQ as well.  Just love on him for as much time as you have left.  He will let you know when it's time.

It's so hard to lose a pet.  So unfair that we just never have enough time with them.

One of my kitties ran out the door last week.  Extremely people shy.  Wouldn't let us pick her up or pet her

She got along well with other animals though.   We miss her!

She might come back!

I had a cat for over 10 years.. she got out one day.. and it was like a month and she did not show back up.. finally threw away her litter box.. and next day.. there she was on my doorstep... smelling like chinese food.  I think she was at the restaurant about a 1/2 mile from my apt.  Crazy.. she lived another 10 years with me after that!

But sorry for your fur baby's health issue.  My first Siamese cat passed at 19yrs old after suddenly developing a stomach illness and I had to put her down.   It was awful and I was in a fog for months.   Even Chef cried.

So sorry for your situation. I lost my super lovey kitty a few years ago, and it was so hard. She was so connected to me, and she died of an aneurysm while I was at work. The skids had called their dad, and he called me. I rushed home but she was already gone. I felt so bad I wasn't with her at the end. Its so hard to lose these pure souls. They give so much to us and never ask anything in return. They make life as a stepparent bearable.

Knowing the end is coming is difficult,  but so is losing a pet suddenly. All we can do is love them hard while they're with us.

How lucky you are to have access to a mobile vet. Sending good thoughts for your little boy and you.
