A tale of 2 young men
First up is my Gson18. Gson has wanted to go into the Army since he was 3. He isn't a star student or athlete but he is a good kid. He was very lucky to get into a Pathways program in his Junior year in his high school. He went to school and studied for his GED and had to take vo-tech classes so he could walk with his class and have a diploma. Knowing he had to have it go to the Army, he finally applied himself and made it.
Gson graduated 5/28 and left for basic training 6/28 at Ft Benning, Georgia (I bawled my eyes out when he left). DSO went with us to see him off since he has been in his life for 15 years and he shed a few tears too.
Nexrt we have SS21. SS is very intelligent and creative but he has been in trouble with the law and trouble attending school since age 12. SS did get his GED but he could really go far if he applied to a community or 4 year college.
After we got home from seeing Gson off, DSO talked about having SS come cut grass and weed eat. DSO said 'well IDK if he should do it in this heat.' He stopped himself and said 'Yeah he can handle it' before I could spit out.....you just watched an 18yo head to Georgia where its twice as hot and humid as we have here and he will be running miles with a full pack on his back so stop babying that little asshole.
PS I would like to say to those living in the Northwest dealing with the heat that I hope you can stay cool and get some relief soon.

Snowflakes
Looks like you have some snowflakes in your area - that should keep SS nice and cool while he helps out...
Thanks! We are in Central West Coast and have a nice cool fog around us currently.
Congrats on seeing your Gson off to his next life adventure! I have a cousin who is in the Army as a life-career and she has a good savings, two properties and does quite well because she is smart with her money. She also got some education to go with it!
Yep. Young people still have
Yep. Young people still have tons of opportunity if they're ambitious.
My next door neighbor is a HS grad and he is a plant manager, making twice what I make. He's getting a promotion and move out of state, where he will be making 3x what I make. All four of his kids are grown, the youngest is 20, none went to college, and all are independent with good jobs. The 22 yo is already a manager at a national tire store. He gets tons of overtime.
YDS26 and buying his first house. He opted to not go to college, but he has a good job. I offered to pay for community college for his first two years, but he didn't want to go. It's not for everyone.
The trades are dying for plumbers and electricians. Those jobs pay great.
My DS is a tradesperson so
My DS is a tradesperson so Gson always has that to fall back on. Honestly the service if a great path for many kids now-a-days unless they like working at minimum wage forever.
