What do you miss from the past?

  • Dr. Scholl's REAL wood sandals with blue leather uppers
  • Flowing maternity cloths
  • Clubs where people actually DANCED
  • Companies who valued employee loyalty
  • "Brett" Maverick - my very first car
  • My paternal Grandma's blueberry pie and Pie Crust Cookies
  • Playing games with my siblings when we were all kids. MADE-UP games and things like Mother May I, Red Rover, Hide N' Go Seek, Kick the Can...
  • Going aaaaaall day away from home and not knowing that you missed a zillion calls from some jerkwad
  • Door-to-door sales (GSC!!!)
  • Camping/road trips with the whole family (and ALWAYS, Mom's cold chicken for lunch that first day on the road)

  • Those little lemon drops. NOt the weird candy now. Like genuine ones with the sugar crystals on them that my great grandma used to give me everytime i visited.
  • Hanging upside down off the top bunk bed safety rails
  • Plaing hide-n-seek with my boxer. He was hillarious. I'd throw the ball and hide and then he'd search for me and repeat.
  • Actual tent camping, in the middle of the woods! I haven't done that in so long!!!
  • SNOW (I can find that again, the south and it's lack of snow just makes me sad...)

My paternal grandma always had the soft mints: round and kind of hot pink. LOVED those!!

It kills me when people go "camping" in something that is just a smaller version of their house. Crikey, those things have satellite dishes on them now!!! Musty canvast tents, sleeping bags (NO cots!), building a fire and COOKING over it...sigh.

I miss being able to walk barefoot on gravel. At some point the PSI on our feet makes it too painful:)

I miss not knowing what my future would hold.. when you are 10 your options are limitless at 50plus...not so much.

as far as products:

Sara Lee Orange Cake (came in a foil pan with a cardboard top)

Howard Johnson's Clam Rolls

Fresh Sqeezed OJ from the lever press we used to have

When you are 10, you're carefree with no bills to pay, too!

Rax and Godfather's pizza.

I love dogs's picture

There's a restaurant here by the university that sells fresh squeezed OJ! Oh, I'm salivating just thinking about it..

I miss my life before the step drama.

I miss my Granny's laugh and sassy comments. She was always messing with somebody and stuffing me with food like a Thanksgiving turkey. I was her favorite.

I miss fall and am so excited to wear nothing but over sized sweaters and leggings.

I loathe step drama, but I wouldn't give up my DH for anything.

My maternal Grandma was like that. "Have seconds! Have thirds! Have dessert!!"

-Sometimes I miss that "no fear" attitude I had when I was 20 years old. I'd do anything without much thought but now that I'm older I do way too much thinking and miss the days when I would just "jump".

-I also miss the clubs in NY when we would just dance the night away.

-I miss playing double dutch with my girlfriends on a hot summer day.

-I miss the innocence of being around a guy you like and giggle so much because he makes you smile.

-I miss funnel cakes, I haven't had one in a while Mosking

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Ah, the "no fear". Like climbing all over waterfalls with no fear of falling or running hellbent down a steep hill....

My metabolism!  I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain an ounce.

The taste of sun-warmed veggies picked from my grandparents' garden.

Knees that didn't ache when I climbed stairs!

Siemprematahari's picture

Yes the metabolism too!! I ate EVERY darn thing with no shame but now I actually have to exercise in order to keep it off lol.

Thumper's picture

YES YES YES Aniki those wooden sandals....omg I had a pair.

Laying out in the summer lathered in baby oil. Goal---burnt. Thats a good base. Everyone wanted to get burned

If anyone is from the Jersey/Philly area they might remember watching STEEL PIER on Saturdays from Atlantic City NJ. during the summer. It was great to see while we waited to " go down the shore".

Not being able to get in the pools/ocean because you had you period. PRE-tampon days. Nothing like putting a bulls eye on your back IF you were walking around in shorts at the pool OR beach. Come to think of it why GO to the pool or beach if your not in a swim suit. EVERYone new why you didnt. :/

Elephant pants. (SUPER WIDE LEGGED pants)

Playing outside. All day long just doing stuff. Coming in to eat only.

The smell of my oldest sisters house in the summer when she had her Window AC on. RIP

Eating corn on the cob for dinner.....that was it. NOTHING else just sweet white corn on the cob. I MISS good fresh sweet corn just picked a few hours before.

Cream Rinse.

Walking into a store on our main street. Front part was pretty gifts you might buy for a new bride. In the back was the toy section. BOY was it a huge toy section. I can almost smell the scent here too if I think about it.

Ahhhh life was nice.

Oh, man, when I was 10, I had two pairs of elephant bells in brushed cotton. One pair was emerald green and the other pair was royal purple. I was SO upset when I outgrew those!!!

GL, you can still eat JUST CORN for dinner!! But don't eat too much. I once at SIX EARS for dinner. The next day, I was on a road trip, had just passed an exit, when the Corn Poopies hit me. OMG, I was clenching my buttcheeks so hard, I could have cracked a pound of walnuts. LOL

- My childhood home.  I lived there 30 out of the 35 years I lived in America.  To this day, when I dream, it is that house that I dream of.  Even with DH and SS15 in it.  It will always be home.

- My brother and I as children/young adults.  We were very close.  Now I don't even know him.

-Pepe's Mexican Restaurant.  They are still around but I live in another country now so I miss it.

-Camping.  Okay it was glamping as I used to have a 32 foot travel trailer with the exH but it was ohhhhhh so much fun!

-My childhood family: dad, mom, brother.  We were probably broken then but we were together and talking.  Nostalgia is probably making it better than it was but at least it was nothing like it is now.
