OT - Derby Day

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Is anyone watching the Derby? I'm not serious about it (no money down!), but I love to watch the horses.

Firenze Fire makes me want to have a Harry Potter movie marathon!

I live in Louisville, and it's a big deal.  We have two weeks of stuff going on starting with Thunder Over Louisville and ending with the Derby.  The one and only time I went to Churchill Downs on Derby Day, it was rain mixed with snow.   Never again.  Too crowded, although we used to celebrate Father's Day there before my Dad passed away.   A lot of locals go to the track on Thursday (known as Thurby here) or on Friday for the Oaks.  A few years ago, I went to a Starbucks during Derby Week and saw Pat Day, so that was kind of neat.  A few years before that, I worked in a building that was connected to one of the big hotels downtown.  I saw Michael Jordan that year in the little coffee shop in my building.  I saw Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip's car the year they came.  It would have been nice to actually have seen them.

I love dogs's picture

The Derby isn't really for me. I do like live races, however. I have to admit that I'm a little more excited that it's Cinco de Mayo *blush.

It's a good thing I didn't have any money on the race.  My Boy Jack was nowhere to be seen.

My boy Mendelssohn almost got knocked off his feet at the start and finished last. Very tough race but Justify....wow. Like a boss!

We sure did.  Every year we do while sipping Mint Julips.

Anyway the entire time I was PRAYING none of the poor horses slipped. The weather was dreadful.

All the ladies who spent gob's of money on the perfect dress and hat.....what a shame.

I love watching Horse races.
