Well, this is fun...
DH is a school bus driver.
He got a call this morning from "City Public School". He put in an app there months ago. He applied for full time only, which is why they just called. They have a full time position available.
DH just got a job at "Inner City Preschool" a few weeks ago (Boy, has that been fun! He's white as a piece of paper and ALL of his kids are black and raised in a totally black neighborhood. Parents were PISSED that a white guy was driving their kids to school :? ). Gross pay is about $320 a week.
City public school is offering more hours. They will pay him $13 an hour when he is driving and $10 when he is helping supervise kids in the school. Gross pay is looking to be <$400 a week.
Our bills are about $150-200 a week (we have VERY low rent because we pay most of it with our tax refund).
We do not (currently) pay child support.
Food is about $100 a week.
City Public School wants him to start Monday.
Thoughts?

I would take into
I would take into consideration the pay, the overall benefits, the room for advancement.
What does his gut say?
Gut says go for it. My mom
Gut says go for it. My mom says go for it, his dad says go for it, I say go for it.
They just called and asked him to do a "paid interview drive" tomorrow (his day off since the pre-k only goes 4 days)
Pretty much, he drives the route with his future supervisor on the bus to see how he is as a driver. Except they are paying for it. I like this job already!
Sounds like it's meant to be.
Sounds like it's meant to be. He should go for it.
This offer sounds like a good
This offer sounds like a good opportunity, I would say "go for it".
Not really. We had a friend
Not really. We had a friend live in that neighborhood once because the rent is cheap. He had men with guns show up at his house saying they didn't want "crackers" in their neighborhood and he'd better get out. He tried to tough it out and had his windows shot out, car shot at, tires slashed...
The neighborhood is known for prostitution, drugs, and having 90% of their high school *graduates* be illiterate. Oh, and their marching band. They have an awesome marching band.
Oh, yeah, B moved the next
Oh, yeah, B moved the next month, right back to our quiet little the worse thing that happens here is a car accident town.
Their high school is in the local parade every year. Truly a wonderful performance. That's about the ONLY good thing in that area.
It is a very big shame. I'm sure most of those kids never are able to reach their potential. The entire town went down hill fast over the past few decades. I don't know what happened, but it has become a very low class, predominately minority, violent, dirty run down town. It is a true shame... the houses there used to be beautiful
