Dh wanted to meet in person with SD18, who he has not seen for 6 months. DH calls SD every night to ask about her day, etc, and lately, SD has been avoiding his calls. We found out why when we realized she knew her mom was planning to send attorney paperwork to DH regarding her college funding, without ever asking him about it once. 

We are going through the college process with SD18, who will graduate in June.  SD18 is a pretty good student, mostly As and Bs.  She is in some honors and AP classes and generally does well and does her homework without a battle.  Compared to many skids on here, she is a dream. 

So...this weekend we got a money panic email from BM, asking us what we though we/DH's parents can 'do' toward YSD's college plans. 

Apparently YSD doesn't qualify for the Pell Grant, which we thought she would based on her EFC. 

I am highly suspicious of this. BM technically has 2 other kids 'in college' who have both gotten financial aid. With 3 kids in college, she'd have to be making over 75K a year to NOT qualify for ANY aid at all (adjusted gross, not gross...and those three kids also bring that number down significantly, I thought). 

So a couple weeks ago I was so upset the day DH and I had to leave on a big business trip because YSD had chased a feral cat into our crawlspace and then into the walls. I won't rehash the whole story but here's the link:
