When a licensed teen starts driving - insurance questions
Forums:
DH has 50/50 (every other week) parenting time with SD16 who just got her license in AZ. We highly suspect that BM is allowing SD16, who just received her driver's license, to drive BMs car without having insurance carried on SD. SD is not driving DH's car yet as she has refused to sign his "contract" so he does not have insurance for her to drive here during his parenting time, either. So, if SD was driving BMs car, if she would get pulled over and cannot show proof of insurance, or be in an accident with BMs car, would DH be responsible for any possible legal action that might occur, or only BM?
Any words of wisdom? Thanks!
Yes if they have 50/50
Yes if they have 50/50 custody....
Good luck with that, if someone sues they go after everyone they can....
As for you not having her on your insurance, you are crazy, you can lose everything. It is expensive, but worth it. Otherwise, she doesn't drive the car. Not to mention the tickets she and you can get for uninsured motorist.
Edited to add, my sister is an attorney for the largest insurance co and her years of drilling this stuff into me, makes me carry more insurance than I probably need.
Scubed, that's HORRIBLE.
Scubed, that's HORRIBLE. Thanks for sharing, I'll chat with DH about all these ideas.
Scubed, that brings me to
Scubed, that brings me to another question then - with your friend's situation - I don't understand what it would have mattered if SM was on the insurance or not (like yours is separate) - maybe unless they had separate accounts and finances as well - and the injured party's family could only go after her husband's assets if they were all completely separated?
