skid-induced alcoholism
Forums:
We joke a lot about drinking to prepare ourselves and survive skid visits. I was just sitting here at work and it popped into my head...ugh, almost pumpkin carving time. For me to pretend to enjoy spending time with someone who makes my skin crawl, I need to be partially absent, meaning inebriated. I think about pumpkin carving with him, and I think about just how spiked the spiked apple cider can be that night. Then I wonder seriously, has anyone here developed a real alcohol problem trying to self medicate to deal with the horror of skid time? I have gained almost 10 pounds recently, and I know it is from the drinks. I wonder if it is becoming a bigger problem. He is with us 50% of the time, and that's a lot of spiked cider!
yes. that's the simple
yes. that's the simple answer. this will be a very controversial topic, but honestly, yes, yes,and yes. We had 100% custody for a year and a half ( two weeks after we married, BM gave up custody of the two hellions she raised) I came a millimeter away from leaving EVERY SINGLE DAY. So, yes, wine (and prayer) helped me through. Thankfully, they are back with BM and we only have one SS here now ( whom DH raised, and is a relatively decent kid) But I continue to imbibe daily. Please don't judge.
I havent drank for some weeks
I havent drank for some weeks now-since my home is a ss free zone. Early this summer when he was visiting eoweekend I was drinking regularly. Every other weekend.
No judgement here! A nice
No judgement here! A nice glass of wine sometimes can soften anyone, or any subject.
The skids require a lot of energy and time.
I am more relaxed after a glass of wine.
Cheers myhusbandswife, momydearestto4 and forever2!

I just realized the reason I can't stand my skids more than usual lately. I'm 2 1/2 months pregnant and haven't had a drink since I found out. I used to drink 2-3 large glasses of wine while DH was picking them up and would regularly drink during the rest of the weekend as well. They were much more bearable when I was drinking. *Sigh*

I used to go through about a fifth of whiskey a week when SS23 was living with us. No joke. Not to mention the countless six packs of Rolling Rock!
I was going through 2 to 3
I was going through 2 to 3 bottles of wine a week when DH's kid (D now 16, then 11) was living with us.
Since she left I cut out caffeine, 90% of refined foods and I might drink maybe 2 glass of wine a week (if that).
Yes.....skid induced stress caused some skid induced drinking. I'm so glad she lives with Uberskank again.
Right with all of you. I
Right with all of you.
I dread coming home from work to SD15 fulltime.
Glass of wine or two or three = relax and chill. Is it right or wrong? Compared to what?
I work full time, come home and cook dinner, then to relax a few glasses of wine, I see nothing wrong with that. At the the end of the day it helps me feel less stressed out about "all of it" and causes far less trouble.
Her father and I can talk about these things, still, I am in my own little world.
Yes, I gained some Pinot
Yes, I gained some Pinot pounds this last summer.
Yes, ss9 and sd12 are here
Yes, ss9 and sd12 are here EVERY weekend, so every weekend while he is on his way to get them I have a drink or two so I am ready when they all get back! What sucks is that when I wake up on Sat morning EVERY Sat morning I want to start all over again and not quite until 7pm Sun night! I guess my sign I have outside on the deck is perfect, "ITS 5:00 SOMEWHERE" LOL!

I used to drink as a teenager, I quit drinking about the time it's legal to start! DH used to drink heavily but he just upped and quit, curiously, not long after we met. I have to say, though, with a crazy woman and her four kids (handful but not bad) and the twins (DH's kids to her...who are hell raisers) at home where would you be? Yep...in a bar!
