O/T: C Section vs vaginal delivery
Ok ladies, I have a question for you. I have noticed women who have given birth vaginally say that’s the way to go, and women who have a c section are all for delivering that way. Have any of you had both and which did you prefer? I have done a LOT of research so I am just looking for personal experiences versus statistics. I am planning to start trying to get pregnant (my first) in the next few months. I have a medical condition that may make a c section necessary but I will not know until near the end of the pregnancy. If I choose to go ahead and schedule a c section without knowing if I will “need” one, my doctor is okay with doing that so that I am prepared. I know it’s early since I am not pregnant yet, but just want to get some opinions! Thanks, all!

I had both. C-section was first. The vaginal birth wins, hands down, for the ease of recovery. But I had 30 hours of labor prior to the C-section. Pain was my downfall. If the pain had not been so severe, I might not have had the C-section, so the second time, the anesthesiologist was my best friend. Epidural made all the difference.

I don't have kids of my own, but I'm very close to my sister who has two. One c-section and one vaginal.
Given the chance to go back, she would have not done the c-section. The recovery was terrible for her in comparison to the vaginal.
She had two HUGE babies too; one 9lbs 8oz and the other 9lbs 10oz .. and would have opted to push the second one out too if she could have (if that tells you anything).
Good luck!
When mom and baby are in good
When mom and baby are in good health, vaginal is best. Fascinating research coming out about the need to revise "planned" sections for better outcomes for the baby - surprising struggles for taking baby even at 38 or 39 weeks.
I had two vaginal deliveries.
I had two vaginal deliveries. The first one wasn't bad at all. I started pushing around midnight and baby popped out around 3am. I had an epidural and nothing hurt. Was up and about the next day. Prior to pushing, I was actually sleeping. Also with the epidural I had a shot in my arm of something and I believe that knocked me out.
Second child was not as fun. I was in pain all day. The doctor was refusing to get me an epidural and waiting until the very last minute. She wouldn't give me the pain shot in my arm. Baby was stuck for a very long time while I pushed and pushed. I overheard them talking about getting the vacuum. The doctor I had was also a complete idiot. My water broke at 7am and I gave birth around 7pm. I was still up and about the next day but I ended up with a huge painful hemerroid (sp?) which I never had before in my life!!
If that was my first child it probably would have been my last. We had DH fixed a month later because I vowed never to go thru that again!! I know some people are in labor for a lot longer but that second birth just really sucked!!
I had two vaginal births and
I had two vaginal births and recovery for each was very very different. My first was 9lbs 1oz and I was in pain for 8 weeks. My second d was 9lbs 12oz and I was up the next day feeling completely fine. Tore twice as badly with #2 too.
Each birth is different and unique. Personally I would avoid a csection if there is no clear medical need. Its major abdominal surgery and carries real risks.
Thank you all so much for the
Thank you all so much for the stories and advice! I am really not sure what to do! I am hoping when I actually become pregnant it will be clearer for me. I may end up having to get a c section regardless of what I decide due to my medical condition, but I won't be able to find that out until later in the pregnancy. I was considering just going ahead and scheduling a c section that way I can at least be prepared and know how I am going to deliver ahead of time. I know people have unplanned c sections all the time but I am nervous with this being my first baby!
