Give me the strength to make it through Christmas Eve

SD15 is sooooooooooo ridiculous during a family gathering. She is constantly joined to her father and follows him around. It makes me feel so uncomfortable and feel so stupid. This behavior has gotten better in regular everyday life but around the family it is still bad. Lord help me so I don't lose my mind. Anyone else have the mini wife emerge when around family or in public in general?

I'm with you on this. This and MIL. And they all wonder why I am distant at family gatherings. I will go find a cousin's baby to rock or do the dishes or fake sick and not even go. I have to use this last technique sparingly though lol
Thinking of faking sick
Thinking of faking sick maybe...just don't think I can deal with it. I am very distant too...I honestly don't want DH and SD15 anywhere around me when they are doing that. My MIL thinks that SD15 just loves her daddy  You can Love your daddy without acting like his girlfriend.

I see a stomach bug in your future!
sigh... i hate it.... SD15
sigh... i hate it....
SD15 will randomly hug him and proclaim, "I realllllllly love you Daaaaaaddddddddddyyyyyyyyyyyyy."
Really? Is that why you haven't bothered to see him in 5 weeks? She is gracing us with her presence on the 24th. She just wants her gifts, nothing from me, but from the rest I'm sure.
I will be starting my day with coffee laced with Kahlua.
omg... skeeter... Every time
omg... skeeter...
Every time I see your SD's ages, I die a little inside. You are my hero...
Yes it is definately
Yes it is definately ridiculous indeed! Thanks ladies for your comments...you brightened my day!

My SD18 is totally a mini-wife, but she wants all the attention to herself when family comes. Like on year she played the same three notes on the piano over and over and over - we were shouting at each other 4 feet away and DH FINALLY told her to stop. She kept playing anyway... :O and said "dad told me to stop playing but I'm going to anyway."
Just had a total "Pride and
Just had a total "Pride and Prejudice" moment on that one, Lj! When Mr. Bennett instructs Mary to stop playing the piano because she's making a fool of herself. Wow!
I think your SD is doing this
I think your SD is doing this especially at family gatherings because of insecurity, she needs everyone to know that she is #1 with DH and not you
Both my DH's daughters have done things (although not on the scale of yours thank goodness) during family get together's like this - especially with mine
One time when my sister was staying with us at the same time it was YSD's weekend, we were having dinner and YSD was saying how "when daddy bought me this and daddy bought me that" etc... etc... and my sister told me later she had to hold her tongue from saying and yes does your daddy buy my sister anything?
I was so used to that type of behavior by then I really didn't even notice, but my sister was gagging
And DH's eldest daughter loves to tell everyone, again my family especially, about all things DH does for her...silly things she can handle on her own but says it like yes, her lover or something is doing this for her
It used to make me gag too, but then I realized that it stemmed from her not being able to handle people thinking DH might love me more - I think this is where all her hostility has come from over the years. Jealousy plain and simple
So, I think your SD is struggling with something similar, and acting out as a result
My SD16 is the same. Its sad
My SD16 is the same. Its sad really, the only thing she wants from her Dad is what he can buy her. She will play all "Daddy-dearest" until she gets the next new thing, then she wont speak to him for days on end, and is rude to him. Sigh. He goes back for more because he loves her and we love our children unconditionally. When she was 13 she and DH were cuddling on the sofa with a blanket over them (gag) and I asked DH to come into the bedroom to speak to me. I pointed out how other people might perceive a grown man cuddling a 13 year old on his lap (with breasts and periods) and he was mortified and that stopped it. Its not that I want them to never hug or show affection but I feel that when boys and girls reach puberty, its time for them to sleep in their own beds and have appropriate hugs with their parents!!
