BM..........The Nightmare Continues (long)
After talking to his attorney BF has decided to have him file a Rule To Show Cause on her many violations of the JPA since August. We are now in the process of further documenting the violations. One of the violations occurred in Sept. when 4 year old SS was hospitalized and ended up needing surgery. BM did not call BF about the surgery he only found out because he happened to come to the hospital to visit him when they were prepping him for it. When she first called BF to tell him SS was hospitalized and they thought it was a staph infection he asked her how he got that. She said she thought it entered his system when he cut his gum while wrestling with his 12 year old SB when he was with us. This didn't make sense since the infection was under his right arm and had formed an abcess which wasn't responding to antibiotics which is why he ended up having surgery to drain it. Received hospital records yesterday and have been going over them. We are stunned by the deceit of BM and what she did to keep us from finding out the truth.
(1) It says that mother told DR. he was bitten by a mosquito on 8/27. The bite became infected and she took him to the doctor for it on the 13th of Sept. because he was running a fever and again on the 20th because he was running a fever and generally weak. The DR. put him on Keflex and a prescription anitibiotic ointment and said it had turned into impetigo. Since both the 13th and the 20th were Wednesday's we had SS that evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. On the 13th BF noticed he was running a fever when he picked him up from Bright Horizons Daycare Center and mentioned it to the staff. They said he had been fine and it must have just started. SS complained of his head hurting and when BF dropped him off to BM mentioned this and the fever. BM asked if BF had given SS tylenol and that was it. Never mentioned the bug bite under his right arm or that he had been to the DR that day or that he had been running a fever or that he had impetigo and was on antibiotics. We never noticed the bite becuse it is under his arm and he had his shirt ont he whole time he was with us nor did we notice him scratching it and SS never mentioned it. We had him again on the 20th and he had been to the Dr. that day for it and they changed his prescription to Bactrim and again it was never mentioned. We found out about these visits in the hospital records. BM also took him to the ER on the 21st with a fever of 102 and they did a blood culture and wound culture of the area. She took him back the 23rd and they changed his antibiotic again and referred her to a specialist. Again BF was never told of any of this. SS was finally admitted to the hospital on the 27th.
(2) In the Family Medical History that BM gave the doctor it lists my BF's autoimmune disease, Myasthenia Gravis and also says "father has some type of autoimmune skin disease" What he has is psorraisis (sp?) which would have no bearing on this case. What we were upset about is what it doesn't list. BM did not tell them that she has genital herpes. SS was being treated for right axillary lymphadenitis. If you look up lymphadenitis, under causes and symptoms it lists genital herpes. We do not believe in any way, shape or form that this had anything to do with his infection we just feel strongly that it should have been disclosed to the Dr. considering the circumstances. If he would have been being treated for the flu we would totally understand that there would be no need to divulge this information.
(3) BM takes SS to grandparents house (150 miles away) and leaves him there for four or five days every other week or so in the summer. BF has always had issues with this as BM's parents are 79 and 80 and he does not feel they are physically capable of taking care of a very active 4 year old for that length of time. BF's mother is 80 and lives a couple blocks away and we would leave four year old with her for longer then 24 hours. While reading the Family Medical History we found out that the grandmother is now on cloumdin after a series of TIA's (mini-strokes.) Needless to say this has just re-enforced my BF's belief that SS should not be left with her parents all the time for that length of time.
(4) It lists in the Consultation Report that BM and two close family memebers had "boils" at the time SS was going through this. It also says that the risks and benefits of SS's surgery were discussed with the patient's mother and counselor (we have no idea who that is)and mother gave permission for the surgery. Again my BF was not informed of the surgery by BM and he was at work less then seven blocks from the hospital. The only reason he found out about the surgery was that he showed up to visit him on his lunch hour.
So after reading the hospital records obviously we are stunned. SS was this sick and she failed to notify us. He had something that is very contagious and she failed to notify us knowing we have nine other children and two grandchildren. She also knows that BF has myasthenia and is very suceptible to infections and that the antibiotics he can be given is limitd due to his disease. She failed to disclose to the Dr. that she had this disease. She failed to notify BF that SS was going to have surgery and to top it all off tried to blame us and a 12 year old for it when she knew that this had started with a mosquito bite. And we haven't even started documenting her other violations of the JPA. I can't imagine how bad this is all going to get. I just want to stay strong enough for BF so that we can get through this. Thanks for letting me vent.
