A Trivial Vent

OK, I know this is trivial, but it really bothers me. It has been raining all day and BF and I are both pretty bored, so I suggest we go to a matinee. He asks me what I would like to see and I say well, Pirates 2 is still out in theaters and we haven’t seen it yet. He says, NO. When I ask him why not, he says well his daughter wanted to go see it, so we can’t go without her (it’s always about her). This isn’t his weekend to have her. I wouldn’t mind so much except when she is here, we never go. They always find something else they would rather do, so I end up having to wait for the movie to come out on video. He does this every time I suggest we go to a movie (or do anything else he thinks she might want to do). We haven’t been to a movie alone together since the last Matrix movie. I have to ask, does your husband/BF do this to you?

My dh would have taken me w/o his son..just so you know. I understand that he doesn't want to disappoint his daughter, but how about the disappointment in his gf? From my perspective, he is putting the "wants" of his daughter in front of the "wants" of his gf, and I think those are mixed up priorities.

His daughter isn't there for you guys to take, it isn't as if you are doing this to punish her, her time isn't available at the moment, so does that mean your whole life must be put on hold? I don't think so. I personally think that he shouldn't make you wait all the time b/c his daughter will miss out. He is missing out on enjoying his time with you.

How about going to the movies w/o him? Maybe you should ask a gf to go with you...

You are SO right! And the thing is, if his daughter wanted to go and I wasn't around...he would go!

I am going to follow your advice and go without him next time.

Thank you!

My dh usually likes to see PG-13 movies with the Skids and I'm more of a foreign film type. But on those rare occasions I want to see something that the skids want to see also and the timing doesn't work out so we can all go together, he will just see it twice.

This is not a trivial matter in my book. Your BF is putting his SD's perceived desires before yours and for no apparent reason. She's not even there! How long has Pirates 2 been out? If she really wanted to see it, I'm sure she could have gotten him to take her already. She probably has already seen it W/O HIM!!!

I would even go with them to see it again, if she really wanted to go.

Exactly! Pirates 2 has been out for a long time now and she hasn't once mentioned wanting to see it when she has been here. I can guarantee you, if it is still in the theaters next weekend when he has his daughter, we won't be going.

Go without him. After a few times of him missing out due to waiting around for his daughter to decide she wants to go, he'll get the picture.

That is irritating what he is doing to you. Tell him how you feel when he does that. Or ask him well what movie does SD does not want to watch? My husband is not a movie goer so I end up renting videos and watch at home. I wish he was a movie goer like me but I guess that will not happen. If worse comes to worse do what I do and rent movies or subscribe to blockbuster online mail delivery. It's awesome! Don't need a man to watch your movies.

So, instead of going to see a movie, I got to go to Wal-Mart with him to buy motor oil. What fun. When he told me he was going and asked me to come with him, I had to bite my tongue NOT to ask him if he shouldn't call and clear it with his daughter first (petty I know, but I was angry).

Actually, Happy Mom I subscribed to Netflix which is like Blockbuster and like you, I think it's awesome. It's just that sometimes it’s nice to see a movie on the big screen.

It's funny now that I think about it…he used to do the same thing to me when I would get a movie from Netflix. If he thought his daughter might want to see it, he would refuse to watch it until she was around. Well, after this happened to me a few times, I started watching the movies myself. Now I don’t even ask him.

Yes, watch the shows by yourself. Better yet, buy a huge screen tv just for you. Better yet, don't buy his stuff anymore and let him get it.
