SS driving me nuts with long bathroom stays

Has anyone dealt with a stepkid who stays in the bathroom for long periods of time? And often. My 15 yo ss will go into the bathroom and stay anywhere from 1/2 hr up to over 2 hours. Short of removing the door we can not get him to come out. He usually has his phone and sometimes takes text books in with him. He does this at home, and much to our frustration, we've had to go after him in restaurants and public restrooms on trips. Does anyone have this issue and how have you dealt with it?

My son got into the habit of doing this as a teeneager. He was an annoying little git. He would stand in the shower for ages and use up our 80 gallon hot water tank. I got really pissed with the cost and took to shutting off the hot water valve in the basement after he had his 15 minutes of hot water. Even that was too much. He used to complain bitterly that the water kept "running out" and we had such a laugh because he never did figure out we were on to him.
Now he's in an apartment with endless hot water...I wonder if the landlord has noticed the cost yet.

If not, and the boy is taking that long to POOP, buy some Castor Oil.

LOL Trust me, we have thought about what he might be doing in there, but 30 minutes should be more than enough time LOL I would sneak castor oil but then we would NEVER get him out of there, but at least we would know he has a valid reason!!
I like the idea of removing the lock or maybe a timed automatic door opener......

All great ideas, and for now I think removing the lock might be a start in the right direction. Then if all else fails we could try embarrassing him by calling out what he "may" be doing in there. None of these long bathroom stays are in the shower or bath, its all toilet, or "grooming" and they happen at least 3 times a night, sometimes 4-5. If he was in there masturbating all those times every night of the week one would think he'd be walking kinda funny from soreness. But what do I know, its been a long time since I've been a teenager LOL
