Yesterday SS texted everyone bragging he made 500 bucks betting on football. BM was so happy while DH was raving mad. His reason was SS is always looking for an easy way out and gambling can be as addictive as alcohol. Right now now SS is not allowed to work and has every expensive GF so he will do everything to make money to keep his GF happy. BM's reason was he won't become addictive to gambling because she knows her son...Really?

My first husband was a compulsive gambler. Shortest path to hell for everyone. They can hide it for a long time, too.

Not to mention you can't go cold turkey on money. You have to handle money pretty much every day of your life.

Is your husband the one who won't allow the kid to work while he's in college?

If so, he really can't say a thing about this. The kid wants to earn his own money. If he decides to blow HIS money on his girlfriend, that's his choice. He will find out how stupid that is sooner or later.

DH wants SS focus on school and makes good grades. SS is famous for cheating and getting short cut from everything and it didn't help him at all. DH is also afraid SS gets addictive to drugs/alcohol/gambling because there's history of addiction on his side of family Sad

I agree about if SS wants to blow his money on his gf there's nothing DH can do. Actually DH laughed about it and said his son will learn soon enough and BM was so angry because SS spent almost 1K on his gf's birthday and only 90 bucks on hers

I can understand that. I had the same rule for my son when he was in college. Since I was footing the bill, I got to call the shots. He couldn't work while he was away at school, but I HAD to work during school breaks and all summer. I deposited money into his account twice a month during the school year.

From I understand that's their agreement but it seems SS desperately needs money to support his GF right now and he also said he won't be addicted to gambling...hmmm....
