neighborhood kids beating on mentally challenged
I have a mentally disabled neighbor. He is in his 20's. One of the sweetes gys ever. When i was picking up the steps from the bus stop i saw a group of neighborhood kids ganging up on him. On of my stepkids was involved in name calling. A few of the kids where pushing him around making threats. I dont know whay the heck possessed them to do that. His parents came out threating to call the police. I pulled my ss back after all the kids ran and forced him to apologize. I even apologid and started to cry. This sweet man who had j u st minutes before was getting attacked hugged me. He told me its ok don't cry.
Wow what a sweetheart. I waited with them for the cops and helped give disruption of the kids involved. The officers gave my ss an earful. Even his own twin brother was upset with him. When we got home he got a good grounding DH and i laid down the law. Even BM couldn't justify this. Bullhorn is never ok.
Just because other people are doing it doesn't make it cool it makes you look like a fool. I asked him why they felt the need to do that. He said the neighbor was acting gay. Why? Because he told a kid he
had a pretty backpack. All he was doing was getting his mail and being friendly to the kids and they attacked him. I am disgusted.
The one thing my neighbor loves doing is going outside and feeling a little independence . To check his mail, get the news paper, walk his dogs and greet the people walking by. Now the poor guy can't even feel safe doing that anymore. This generation of kifs make me sick.

I'm glad that you all came
I'm glad that you all came down on your SS for that. Kind of surprised that BM didn't try justifying it...maybe she's not as nuts as some... I hope your neighbor is able to still feel safe heading outside. How awful.
Good for you for making him
Good for you for making him apologize and listen to the cops. I hope he was ashamed of himself afterwards.
Maybe this will be the wake
Maybe this will be the wake up call your SS needs. Kids usually want to go along with the group, and some kids are more susceptible to peer pressure than others. Maybe now maybe he'll think twice about it. Sounds like ya'll handled it perfectly.
That being said, I don't think bullying and making fun of people who are different is something that just this generation of kids did. Unless your parents grew up in Mayberry, there was plenty of bullying going on in the 50s. My dad tells stories about constantly getting physically beat up, and my mom was teased so mercilessly for being fat, she would get physically ill before she went to school.
I meant this generation is
I meant this generation is way more violent than what i saw growing up but maybe that's just me.
I apologize for the grammar
I apologize for the grammar im using my phone. I had chest pains just typing this all out.
