Crazy BM and her irrational fear of the weather
BM has a weird obsession with the weather. Water Buffalo has thwarted many scheduled pickups and drop-offs and effed up many a “skid-free” weekend for me because of some kind of thunderstorm or if it snows by calling an insisting we not “bring them out and expose them to this weather”. The skids are now 17 and 19 by the way. *eye roll* She calls every time the skids are at our place if it’s even going to sprinkle and insist we do not let “the boys” go outside in the “severe weather”. This week, she insisted we not send them to a 2 day camp because it might thunderstorm. DH sent them anyways. Every status she posts on FB has a comment about the weather, even if the rest of the post has nothing to do with the weather. Maybe that’s why she fails to shower… because it reminds her of scaaarrrryyy rain! According to DH, she’s always been that way and she’s never had a traumatic experience with weather. Now the skids refuse to even open a window upstairs and it seriously needs to air out up there, so she has them feeding off her dramatics. We live in WI, not in tornado alley or anything. Just wondering if anyone else’s BM has this particular brand of crazy or if it’s just ours?

PMSL. BM once told SO that he
PMSL. BM once told SO that he couldn't walk home with SD at changeover time because there was thunder. A tiny amount of thunder. No rain. And this was when BM lived a two-minute walk away from SO.
We're using that against her now. Winter's a-coming over here in Australia. If it's raining or thundering, we won't take SD to the swimming lessons BM enrolled her in without talking to us first. After all, it's a half-hour walk each way.
Worth noting, we have 50/50. Before that, SO was the CP. So yeah, it's very uncool of her to book her in swimming lessons, in winter, knowing neither one of us drives, and without checking what time we're free. And again, we live in Australia. It's compulsory for schools to provide swimming lessons every year. SD attends school swimming lessons in late spring/early summer. We live nowhere near a beach, and none of us know anyone with a pool. So she's not at risk of drowning. They're completely extra-curricular lessons.
Sorry for getting a bit ranty
Please tell me the 17 & 19
Please tell me the 17 & 19 year old skids WORK at the day camp?
I love rain. Shopping when it's raining is my favorite thing. Haven't melted yet. Or been hit by lightning.
And no, I have never heard of being that afraid of weather.
We have plenty of tornadoes here; I have witnessed an F5 and seen a lot of destruction, still not that afraid of weather. I have a healthy respect for it, though.
Our BM instilled fear of the
Our BM instilled fear of the world in younger skids too. I think it goes back to promoting unhealthy dependency and making sure they knew they needed mommy to rescue them. That's her stock in trade: she needs to control them, and it is easier if the world is presented as full of hazards. YSD15 was not allowed by BM to take the train. At the time i found it laughable: i am from Europe, where 10-year-olds take public transit by themselves.
BM was also a hypochondriac who thought only the most expensive doctor can cure her imaginary ills.
All those are bids for attention. She is bordeline. Ignore her, and help skids open those damn windows... in their minds.
There is a thunderstorm
There is a thunderstorm warning here right now and I cannot for the life of me figure out why the sirens are not going off. They must not be working.
My ex sil is like that but
My ex sil is like that but not as extreme, it never made sense to me. Than again I like to go storm chasing, got some cool footage in doing so. When my niece would visit, we would be out playing in the rain and it helped her to not be so afraid of the weather but I never put her in harms way.
Why are your Skids going to camp at that age?
Wow, lol the popcorn thing
Wow, lol the popcorn thing sounds like something Water Buffalo would come up with. No, SS19 is not special needs, he's a sophomore in college in the fall. He just enjoys being treated like he's still 10 years old, not being made to get his driver's license and driven around like a little kid is driven around to soccer practice. BM is more than willing to oblige... and to a lesser degree but annoying in it's own different ways, so is DH. SS17 is not special needs either, but he may as well be. He has zero motivation for anything and probably won't even be graduating next year. BM is supposedly "homeschooling" him. However, I wouldn't be surprised if she is doing his work for him or letting him skate by doing nothing. IDK what kind of curriculum she is supposedly "teaching", but I have a feeling something is fishy with that or she got some kind of special ed curriculum... because some of their "school projects" include things like learning how to do laundry and painting Christmas ornaments.
