Canadians - Thoughts on Bill C-560?
I'm interested to see what both SMs and BMs think about the bill, and if your opinion is differing depending on if you are a SM or a BM.
For those of you who don't know what it is, there is a new bill being presented that will change Child custody agreements in Canada.
Basically in divorce situations, shared custody (name to be changed to "shared parenting") will be automatically granted in all cases, except in the instance of abuse of neglect. BM's will no longer be granted sole custody just because they are the mother, and both parents will have equal rights in every aspect of the childs life.
Thoughts?

They should do that here in
They should do that here in the US. Hopefully it is also stated as NO CS, no matter what the mother and father make. If one can not afford the kids, then they should give up custody.
I'm not 100% sure but I think
I'm not 100% sure but I think the CS depends on the split of time. Right now I believe that if you have your child less than 45% of the time then you pay CS. I think the same rules would be in place. They are not forcing you to split the time 50/50, they are just giving the option. It is up to parents to make their own decisions and schedules about where the child spends their time.
I personally think its great because it no longer allows BMs to keep kids from their fathers for no concrete reason
It would effect you. There's
It would effect you. There's also a clause in it that allows you change all existing custody agreements
Its not a divorce agreement.
Its not a divorce agreement. Sorry I guess I said that wrong in my OP. Its for child custody agreements.

I'm an ex-SM only. I'm for
I'm an ex-SM only. I'm for it, providing you can still amend it if decided to by both parties (i.e., mother works out of town during the week so can only do weekends). I think father's should have rights to. The old school gender extreme (woman as mom and housekeeper; father as provider) no longer applies in a lot of areas (i.e., work world), so it shouldn't apply in parenting.
Unfortunately, I predict we'll see a rise in abuse and neglect allegations with this legislation.
Yes you can amend it however
Yes you can amend it however you wish. It is solely up to the parents to decide the arrangements and allocation of time.
Think of all the court costs and court time this will free up!
Its funny because it seems to
Its funny because it seems to be only women who are opposing the bill. And its a MAN who created the bill
