I.C.E for cell phones

just.his.wife's picture

Just wanted to put this where everyone can hopefully see it.

DH and I had all the kids load into their cell phones a contact of:

I.C.E: DH Full Name

When first responders try and call someones next of kin/ family they will go into thier cell phones and look for someone designated as ICE

In Case of Emergency

Due to SD19/skid1 having it listed in her phone DH was notified within minutes of the accident happening, not several hours later when a doctor or nurse had enough time to call.
He could also tell paramedics what SD was allergic to so they didn't give her anything with codeine.

You ladies and gents might want to go into your own contacts and your kids and skids contacts and add someone as their ICE contact just in case god forbid something happens.

Dh has the rule in place that if he pays the bill, they are not allowed to password protect their phones.

And he every once in a while, spot checks the phones for calls, text messages etc that are not appropriate.

This is a neat idea especially with kids! I work on an ambulance and have picked up a child where we would have been able to use it. The only thing is sometimes it is not our first priority especially if we have definitive care for what is going on. I have spoken with several co workers who have also agreed it may not be on our top list of things to do. However, it is a great idea and useful in some situations.

If the phone is locked you can still get in from emergency call screne... Just make sure it is programed in properly.

Several times I've handed a cell to a cop or first responder and told them look for ICE we actually had a call it was a good thing even though the pt was an adult turns out mom was her ICE and she had a huge list of medical conditions latex allergy etc. ICE probably made a difference with that call. Another time a wife was able to say "I love you" to her husband one last time even though we don't know if he was aware she hoped he was. I'm big on asking other responders to check things like that, and the yellow dot program my state has too.
