International Stepparent Adoptions
Does anyone have experience with international stepparent adoptions? My DH wants to let BM's husband adopt SS but it seems complicated since multiple countries are involved (we're in the US and SS was born here and there's CS still being paid through the US family court system, BM is in Europe and wants to move to a different EU country). His attorney said he would look into it.
DH hasn't seen or talked to his son since the incident last summer and there's no visitation schedule. It would make everyone's lives easier if BM's husband adopted him, since BM has to keep faxing forms for DH to sign regarding SS in a language he has no idea what it says.
I wondered what we're getting ourselves into here.

The adoption has to take
The adoption has to take place in the birth country of the child
SS has dual citizenship in
SS has dual citizenship in the US and BM's country. He was only born in the US while BM was a student here and she has since left the country after he visa expired and she wasn't allowed to renew it due to a DUI. I'm not sure if she would even be allowed back in the US.
I'm sure that the adoption
I'm sure that the adoption can take place. All it would take is DH signing his rights away. Be damn sure that the court order papers also say that DH doesn't have to pay child support in the US or and other country. Because in the US just because you sign your rights away doesn't mean you don't have to pay child support.
