If I thought that it would work as reverse psychology on the kid, I would get it. But that's not the case over here. Instead, it's just gasoline on the fire.
Ug. If we can keep this girl off the pole, it will be amazing. BM treats her like she's 18 already.
The only thing my mom let me get at that age was strawberry highlights. But she gave me dishwater blonde hair (at that age) so I think she wanted to make it look a little nicer. It looked greenish in florescent light.
When I was 13 we temp dip-dyed it dark red. It was a phase for me at that point though.
I suppose that in and of itself it may not be a "huge" deal. However, if one were to look at the long list of questionable and outright disturbing things BM has done with this child, everyone would look at it as more of a symptom of a much larger problem. It's not just a phase for this child. This child is being groomed to live a certain type of life.
Example: At age 8 the child was talking about wanting a tattoo on her vagina. Or taking showers with other girls and talking about how to other girls want to be lesbians with her.
So yeah, the fire engine red hair at the age of 10 is a problem.
Her father is trying to keep off the pole. Her mother is trying to put her there. And yes, BM was a stripper at one time.
There's a product, I think it's called Color Oops. You can find it at Walmart No guarantee it'll remove ALL the color but it does a pretty decent job from what I've seen. Just make sure you rinse it real well and use lots of conditioner.
At 10 my DD wasn't allowed to have permanent dye, at 12 I let her get highlights, at 14 I let her go mostly blondish, at 15 I let her do a firetruck red low lights, and just yesterday took her to have her hair professionally dyed red, a gorgeous red at that and I'm a bit jealous as I wanted the same color a few weeks ago but my hair is too dark and it didn't take (but it gets a pretty fire to it in the sun, just not as noticeable as I'd hoped) Now my dd knows color takes upkeep, and this color will require root touch ups she will have to pay for or have roots showing it's a responsibility thing. My ds just last summer got to have a mowhawk dyed with a temporary color, and I will let him do whatever after school is out again this year if his grades are good. However a mom can choose to do whatever with her kids hair, love it or hate it that is the way it is. If my exh gf were to of done it I'd of had a shit fit if I hadn't agreed and settled on a color. As mom I can let them have the hair they want 10 is awful young for permanent but hey she has to pay for it not you.
SD9's BM dyed her hair purple when SD was about 3. After DH got custody of her and BM2 finally got visitation again after 2 years of having none, the first thing she did was dye the hair purple again (actually she first bleached it, which burned and blistered SD's scalp) and then she dyed it purple. She was all grins and giggles when DH picked SD up after BM's weekend. She was NOT, however, grinning or giggling when she picked up a completely BALD child for her next visitation weekend.
She has not dyed the child's hair again.
Just to clarify, if the kid wasn't in school or didn't live with me, I wouldn't give a rat's ass if she were dyed Grimace Purple from head to toe. However, the school she attends has a dress code that prohibits hair that is dyed an unnatural color, and SD lives with me full time. Also, SD lives with DH and I full time. We have a house rule that none of the little girls are allowed to dye their hair AT ALL until they are a certain age. Same goes for ear piercing, wearing makeup, and several other things.

I just looked at her and said, "What happened to your hair?"
She proudly told me that her mom "PERMANENT DYED it red!"
(Like I should be excited?)
I just said, "Oh."
And then I walked away.
I am mentally reminded of a moment in which SD looked at me and said, "YOU are NOT MY MOM!"
I looked at her and said, "Yeah. No kidding sweetheart. If I were - you would NOT be acting this way."
I have a stomach ache. Is it over yet? Is it time for her to go back?
