13 days until SS-18 reports to basic .... and ..... right when I think his head is exiting his ass .............
SS-18's young lady friend arrived on Sunday for Spring Break. She is a very nice young lady, very bright and of impeccable character.
They did a road trip to San Antonio, then Austin and the Hill Country and got home late yesterday evening.
On Monday night my wife and I were sitting on the sofa when a cell phone buzzed in the kitchen. The Skid left his phone. He is supposed to call his recruiter every Monday. We used his phone to text his GF with the recruiter’s number and a request that the kid call us.
He called. "I forgot my phone and to call my recruiter, I will call him on Tuesday". We told him to call immediately since it was still Monday, and to leave a message explaining why he did not call and to make sure he called at 08:00 Tuesday AM.
He called us back a few minutes later to confirm he had left the massage at the recruiter's office.
Well, they got home last night and .......... "Oh, I forgot to call the recruiter again today. I will call him tomorrow". I could not help it, I gave him the "You are 18 and an adult, quit acting 12 and make damned sure you do not keep this crap up and ruin this USAF opportunity!!!!!"
I did not yell, I did speak sternly. I got the turn the back, sighing, eye roll.
His GF was within ear shot.
I do not feel bad that I called his BS in front of his friend. Consequences should not be tempered to save face IMHO.
13 days ,12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 ....... We have launch! Woo Hoo! 
Even my wife is ready for him to be out and functioning as an adult.
Sigh! I just don't get it. He is extremely intelligent, capable, polite, etc... he just absolutely refuses to use his head. :?
How I hope the DI can permanently extricate his head from his ass!

Very nice! I owe you 50 Stepbucks. Awesomeson is still working the B shift at an electronics manufacturing plant. He's in a higher capacity as lead tech/solderer/setup but still. . .
GG wants him out of the house very soon so that his hellions can come back; of that I'm sure!
Oh and I will say that Awesomeson's GF is very modest, tasteful and down to earth. Very good breeding.
Hopefully military service will put the final "coat of polish" on SS!!

Rags, when I read your post and how your SS18 just "forgot" to call his Recruiter, I was like "DDOOOPE!" (think Homer Simpson)
This, IMO, is a CLEAR EXAMPLE of how SS18 and most kids in his generation (NOT picking on your SS18 specifically) have ABSOLUTELY NO CONCEPT of accountability!!! I mean, really, HOW HARD IS IT to remember to pick up the phone ONCE A WEEK (or however often he has to do so) and make a phone call!! It seems like ANYTHING that requires the least bit of EFFORT on these kids' parts is just not possible.
Sigh....
I hear you, Rags, I hear you. Don't feel bad about what you said to SS18 OR about the fact that it was in front of his "lady friend". His fault for "forgetting" and he DESERVED to be scolded for it. As a matter of fact, I think his MOTHER should've been the one to ride his ass about it - but once again, she probably just didn't even acknowledge it when he got home. He deserves CONSEQUENCES for his actions - you're doing him a FAVOR by teaching him such a simple life lesson. My opinion: KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, RAGS!!!
I know how frustrated you get when you see that SS18's head is STILL so far up his ass, especially at 18. He's out of high school and is an ADULT and you're frustrated because you've done everything you can to TEACH him simple concepts and to help him. I get it.

P.S. Is it mean of me to want your SS18 to be TORTURED once he gets into basic training?!? Just so that he can see how HARD life can REALLY be and how living with his "evil Stepfather Rags" was actually a walk in the park compared to that!!! }:) }:) }:)
