Applauding a few bio-moms... Parent Conferences from a teacher's point of view...
As a teacher, I see a lot of strange family dynamics at Parent Conferences.
Two that had me smiling tonight:
1. One bio-mom only sees her daughter 3 weekends a month. She made an appointment 2 months ago to meet with me for Conferences tonight. The child lives with her bio-father and step-mother, who did not make plans to attend. Her bio-mom drove over an hour to meet me with me tonight. She had nothing to say but praise for the girl's father and step-mom.
2. Still not REAL sure about this one, but one little girl came in with a whole crew of people. I just said, "Introduce me to your fans!" She introduced me to mom, dad, dad's girlfriend, grandpa and 2 siblings. And through the whole conference, you could see they all worked together to support her. not real sure about the girlfriend, but mom and dad kept making comments about "i'll help with this, if you do that..."
When the skids were little, Loghead and I always invited loca Grande to come at the times we arranged. She's such a nut case, we didn't really want her meeting with the teacher alone, and we also figured she'd waste the teacher's time by setting an appointment and then not showing up...
To all bios and steps, thanks for all you do for your kids and their teachers to help make Conferences a little bit easier...

this is really cool! thanks
this is really cool! thanks for sharing Last-Wife.It's nice to read a good story about people in our type of situation and to read that just because a mom doesn't have custody of their kid doesn't mean they don't care and it doesn't mean they're some deadbeat drug addict.
very nice post
Last-Wife, Thank you for
Last-Wife,
Thank you for being a teacher, I know it is a sacrafice.
Also, thank you for posting about nontraditional families that appear to be doing some things right! Whew! They DO exist?!
We have SD's conferences this week also. I am very involved with SD and school. I always wonder if the teachers think I am over stepping my boundries becaues I am not the bio and/or if BM complains about me or goes out of her way to mention that SHE is the MOM and I am the DAD's WIFE. That is something she would do and just waste everyone's time. I am just thankful SD is old enough that we don't haveto set appointments and we go to the gym and wait in line. This doesn't require coordination with BM.
