"I'll stay if you buy me a skateboard"

So I officially believe that all kids from a divorced home have an entitled and lousy attitude. Today dh and our bios went out to eat for Mother's Day. We sat near a family who I could tell was a 'blended' family. (And later i did have a conversation that confirmed they were a blended family.)We were close enough where we could hear their conversation. At one point one of the mom's sons (looked between 9-11) asked to go home with his dad.
Mom- "I'd really like to spend time with you."
Son- "I want to fo home though." (fidgety)
Mom- "No one is home. Your grandma isn't there or anyone else. You don't even have to spend the night with us."
Son- "No, I wanna go home" (tearing up)
Mom- "don't you want to see so&so?"
Son- "No"
Mom- "well it hurts my feelings that you don't want to spend time with me. (at this point she goes on about how she wants to spend time with him for MD and she would really appreciate it...trig to convince him to stay.)
Son- "I'll stay if you buy me a skateboard."

I didn't hear the mom and sd reply but it was something like I'd it was his bday or Christmas then they would. After that the mom said something about, "well since you don't want to spend time with family..." I don't know their story or what happened after they left. But dh heard the conversation too and couldn't believe the kid blatantly asked for a skateboard and how the mom was practically begging her son to stay. I had to remind him he used to beg ss to stay the same way and how ss doesn't ask dh for things as obvious as that kid, but that ss is just as manipulative.

Anyway, it was just interesting to see another family's dynamics in action. Sometimes I think our stories on this board are just maybe the minority and then I talk to someone in the 'real world' or see instances like this and realize that our stories arethe NORM!

Snarky- we really should! Can you imagine?
Kk- no, not all kids are like that. But it seems a majority are. I always thought my ss was just entitled and spoiled just because. It was an eye opener for me when I found this site and read about other skids just like ss! And now to see it in public...wow. It was unbelieveable, though.
