O/T Awesomeson (DS) Will Be Graduating This Weekend with a Degree in Mathematics--What Is an Appropriate Cash Gift?

thinkthrice's picture

I did get him a Surface Pro 3 last year for his birthday which he uses for class/work, etc. He will be graduating with a STEM degree and also will be getting married in July to a lovely young lady who is an elementary special ed teacher. He will also be cross training to engineering in the Air Force.

I'd like to get him a cash gift so what is appropriate? I have very little experience in gift giving since my parents never did any holidays or gift giving in general.

He already has a nice briefcase and several nice suits (we used to be JWs) He will be/is employed with the Air Force full time. Probably don't want to give him flashbacks of JW life. . . Wink Biggrin

Blum 3 I could never afford to pay for college so my kids had to find a way to do it on their own. Usually working through or GI Bill, scholarships etc.

i'd go with cash in whatever amt you can swing, for the graduation. for the wedding i'd go with a more personal gift, maybe his and hers watches with the date egraved on the back?

Lesson already learned. He has an IRA and a 401k--to the maximum deductible amount, of course. Smile

I bought one. Do not like it. It has cheap thin fabric that you can see the chopped up pieces of foam through. It sort of has a lumpy texture. Not a huge fan.

I am guessing he is going to be in the airforce? If so, I would think long and hard before I gave him "stuff". This would be especially true if the stuff were furniture or some other large item that is liable to be damaged in multiple moves.

Congrats on his success! I know you worked very hard to help him be the kind of man he is :). Whatever you do he will appreciate it.
