Not in Illinois, anyway. I'm confused by that article, why were they fighting over college costs if the kid was in prison?

LOL, probably because his mommeeee convinced him he can turn it all around after he is released. And he wanted to pursue a PhD!!? I guess their particular order didn't stipulate "how many degrees" he was required to pay for. REDICULOUS.

Sounds like the guy agreed to an order that said he would pay for any college expenses, that was stupid.  And there was no age limit on that?

I wish my parents were divorced. I'd like to get my master's degree and them pay for it.

The divorce decree stated that the parties shall be responsible for post high school educational expenses for the son (Max) when Max is ready to incur these expenses. The parties’ obligation for college “shall only be conditioned upon the ability to pay these expenses when incurred, and [Max’s] desire and ability to further his education.”

Luckily for the dad, in the end, this crazy wording did not require him to pay endlessly. The court, after the appeal and reconsideration, determined the the dad did not have to endlessly pay.

But, it wouldn't surprise me if in a year or two Max declares  himself now serious and ready and appeals.
