The Wedding is back on
DH took his sons out for a catch up lunch and came back full of news. The wedding is back on. MSS and fiancé are getting married after all.
They have drastically re-thought their plans.
New plans
- Registry office (equivalent of going to the courthouse) for 12 people
- Party at a pub (it’s a cute oldie worldie pub)
- Pub lunch for 20
- iplayer hooked into pub PA system
- Friends invited after lunch
Old plans
- Big ceremony for 100+
- Party at Grand country house
- Sit down catered meal for 100+
- Wedding band followed by DJ set
- Friends invited for the whole day and night
This also makes my life easier. The original plan would have involved travelling and staying overnight at the venue or somewhere near-by. The new plan, since I’m not going to the registry office, means I can literally get the bus to the pub.*dirol*
I’m pleased I don’t have to go to the registry office. In this country, you pay the basic amount to get married but you have to pay extra if you want to get married in one of the larger rooms at the Town Hall. If they are saving about $1,000 by getting the basic room, I’m not going to be offended not to be invited. Plus, it is generally super boring and involves lots of waiting around for something to happen. *diablo*
MSS has asked OSS to be his best man while they were at lunch with DH.
In other news, OSS has a new job. I think this will be good for him. He’s been working for the same venue since he left school and had progressed about as much as he was able to in that organisation. Apparently, he has been interviewing with all the landmark venues/hotels and was being told that he was under selling his skill set. The place that he’s going to work is famous so its another good luxury brand for his CV and is going to pay him 25% more than he currently earns.
One of the best aspects for him, I think, is that he’s going to have to move from the side of the city he grew up in to the other side of the city. He never went away to college so it will do him good to experience another area.

I am so glad they have
I am so glad they have decided to scale back. I think over the top weddings are such a waste! Save that money for your actual life together, not on some party!
Best news for you though- none of the charade and just a drink at a pub to celebrate!
I agree
I completely agree on wasting money on a big wedding. Its not worth it. I've been to oodles of them over the years and couldn't tell you much about any of them.
In their case, see about two blogs back from me, Fiance's Dad was supposed to be funding it but backed out. I suspect that the pandemic was hard on his business.
Even better thing about the pub, is that I can slip away and go home if I can't take it anymore.
Wow great options for YOU!
I have sgd wedding coming up. (Posted blog about being in pics) I've decided I really can't just skip it. I do like this SGD, but with time comes clarity. This will be the third wedding in the step family. Looking back I realized. There is definitely color co-ordination for pictures going on pre-weddings (and that's totally fine). The last two, DH and I of course were left out of many details, including time to be there (fwe arrived by chance at the tail end of pic taking at the last one) and what colors would be best. I decided, that right there was my sign that it is perfectly acceptable for me to decline being in photos "oh no, just have grandma and grandpa in them, I don't want to mess up your ascetic " "
The OSD still does the birthday/group (which occasionally includes BM) messaging photo dump and I'm not giving her any more ammo.
I'm going to try to skip any photos
But thankfully, I don't think this wedding is going to be too coordinated like that. If there is the possibility of photos, I'm going to buy a huge hat and hide under the brim.
Great
Glad the plans are improving! The new plan sounds better overall.
Thanks
I think this is more their style anyway. They aren't big socialites plus it will save serious amounts of money.
