He’s stupidly optimistic.
I get so tired of how stupidly optimistic my SO is when it comes to SD9. "I don't think she would lie about that" after she's been caught in so many lies. "I don't think she will do that" when it's something that she has done on numerous occasions. "I don't think she wants to get grounded again" even though she constantly chooses to break the rules and get grounded on a regular basis. "I don't think she feels that way" when she's made it clear that's how she feels. What's crazy is that he always feels like an idiot once she proves him wrong and then he is furious! Sometimes he just makes excuses for her (like yesterday, when she decided not to put her scooter away correctly and I almost fell on my face). It's a revolving door. It's beyond irritating. I feel like he will be stupidly optimistic and constantly make excuses for her behavior for the rest of his life. So aggravating and unattractive...

Yes, he will
My DH is 83 and still doing this with 58 yo SD. All 4 of our other kids and I have pointed out serious matters to him and he can"t deny facts. But he says he can't give up on her. He also says society has always had weaker members. I feel your pain but get ready, it doesn't change.
THAT is really unfortunate
THAT is really unfortunate news. I respect you for sticking it out. I don't think I'm strong enough to get to the point where I'll be saying, "My SD is 58." You're one tough cookie!
Your SD is 9
Check back with us in 49 years. Lol.
If I'm still involved in step
If I'm still involved in step-life, I'm sure I will stay here until then. LOL!

This is why I disengaged and learned to say "oh, ok."
I wish I could do that. I
I wish I could do that. I mean, I could say that... but I'd be fuming on the inside.
AAAARRRGGGHHH!
The flashbacks...they BURN!!!

I'm sorry! I'm glad it's just flashbacks rather than the present reality for you though!
Not present reality
but made me realize that both Chef and the Gir have no business breeding like they did.
I feel like most of the step
I feel like most of the step-kids that are discussed on this site are the result of two people who should have never bred.
NO KIDDING

Denial is strong
Denial is strong in these guys. I've never seen anything like it. The mental gymnastics my DH performs to turn unpleasant facts into roses, it Is truly amazing. And any little thing she does that is neutral or good is praised to the skies.
