When It Rains It Pours....

Stick's picture

Hi my friends!! I just wanted to say hi and that I am thinking about all of you. I hope you are all doing well.

Things have been tough here. Besides the Mediation Drama that DH and BM are going through...

SD was diagnosed with H1N1 2 weeks ago. She is okay now though.

Wed. SD went to school with a sore throat. She felt fine, just had a little sore throat. When she got home from school, she started to feel yucky. Within an hour or so... her head was pounding and she had a fever. She was pale and not hungry. I kept her home from school on Thursday and took her to the doctor.

At first they thought it was strep, but did a "Flu A" test (nasal swab) in the office just in case.

The doctor comes back and says..."I didn't think this would be positive, but SD has H1N1!"

Great. The week before DH is supposed to fly back home!

So I call the school and tell them. And also call SD's friend's mom to let her know. SD's friend's mom says the H1N1 test takes 3 days and costs insurance companies about $300 to do. Was I sure it was H1N1? And was the office reporting it?

So I call the doctor's office back and they tell me that the Health Department no longer requires the reporting of the flu.

Also, I come to find out that H1N1 can be the regular seasonal flu, OR the variation, Swine flu. They are both "Flu A". But to determine if it was Swine Flu, would have been an additional test. Since so many people in our area have come down with Swine Flu, if you test positive for H1N1, they just say that you have it (Swine Flu) and treat you with Tamiflu!

I thought that was kind of interesting. I have been seeing all of these reports about a pandemic etc. and people dying from Swine Flu. And come to find out that in some of these cases they aren't doing the secondary testing to differentiate between regular H1N1 and Swine!

I'm not sure what SD had. She completely responded to the Tamiflu and was fever free by Sunday without other meds. She went to school on Monday and seems fine right now. Just still a little tired.

Luckily, I did not catch anything. It was a worry with my asthma. But so far, so good (knocking on wood - my head!)
