A little random...Halloween costumes!
Just thought of one more thing that makes me excited to be the BM instead of the SM. Getting to have a say in Halloween costumes!
SD and SS are at the complete mercy of BM....last year they told her what they wanted to be, we even offered to pick up the costumes for them, but BM said that she would do it. She waited until the DAY BEFORE Halloween to buy them and of course the ones the skids wanted to be were all gone. They ended up being pirates (a girl and boy version). This year both kids want to be Spiderman...we'll see if that will work out in their favor or not.
I'm a really crafty person and would love to make them some costumes, but BM would really never allow that. So I'm excited that I'm pregnant and having my own child that I can be creative with! I remember between my mom and my aunt we basically would dream up anything we wanted to be and my sister and I got to be it. My sister was a huge pumpkin one year with balloons attached to her, an M&M, I was a roller-skating waitress, a lionness, a kitty, harem girl, etc...all home-made and awesome! Totally looking forward to doing this with my own kid.
Any of you crafty and make your own costumes? (I mean, not necessarily sewing, but not buying the generic, store-made ones) -- What are your favorites?
On a side note, I've seen this costume somewhere and would love to replicate it but have no idea how:
The gist is that it's an old fisherman carrying a net over his back, and there is a mermaid sticking out of it. A female wears the costume and is dressed like the mermaid on top, and then the little man is a fake man kind of hunched in front of her, and her legs are the man's legs. Any thoughts on where to get an "old man"?

DH was allowed to pick out
DH was allowed to pick out SS's costume just once when he was about 8. BM's mom made most of his costumes which were usually pretty cute, but kept DH from getting involved on halloween. I absolutely LOVE getting my kids dressed up now. Last year my 4yo was a homemade pirate, this year we're all going as Toy Story toys.
Good luck with your mermaid costume - it sounds awesome!
BM has no say in kiddos
BM has no say in kiddos costume and she hasnt, ever. This is the first year that she has EVER wanted to take kiddo trick or treating (and i get the feeling that it is the boyfriend, not her. I also get the feeling that if a good party comes up, she is going to drop that visitation like its hot). guess thats the price you pay when youve got nothing to do with your kid and refuse to pay for anything. Sooo-ooorrry. LOL.
Yeah...it's just one of those
Yeah...it's just one of those things that proves that BM has "good taste" and can buy things "brand new" as she totally looks at it that way. She puts on a show of buying tons of clothes for herself and the kids and criticizes things I've made for the kids (I've knitted them hats and scarves so far that the kids LOVED and thought were so cool that I did them, and she made comments about them and then 'lost' them)....incredibly materialistic and unoriginal.
I wish I was crafty enough to
I wish I was crafty enough to make a costume for DS & DD this year but I'm not.
