Deodorant brands?
So, this is a spin-off from the earlier post about BO. I was wondering if anyone knows of a particular deodorant brand that works really well?
My SDs use lady speedstick, suave, or degree in a stick under their armpits. Sometimes, they do a whole body spray of the canned stuff (if we are going to be out in the sun). They are showering every night, and washing up every morning, but still, sometimes they STINK!

I've also made them use the stuff that is designed for men, on occasion. I don't think that helps a whole lot, though!
secret clinical...it's
secret clinical...it's expensive though.

I got online, and found two .5 oz sticks for $5.00. Not too bad, for a trial! The price is great, especially if it works!

We've tried Arrid, to, but it didn't seem to work. That's when I had them start using the spray bottles as a body spray (advice from my cousin!)
I found Mitchum at the local
I found Mitchum at the local Walmart pretty cheap, to! I wonder if it is better than the clinical strength Secret? Another poster suggested switching out, which we do, with body washes, and shampoos, so maybe I will have them try that!
We'll be in town this
We'll be in town this weekend, so I think I will get them either the Mitchum or clinical strength then. I guess I'll let them choose what to use first!
I don't like having them take
I don't like having them take pills, though. Both of them are already on two pills a day (prescribed by a doctor).
You have to determine the
You have to determine the cause of the odor. Simply covering up the odor isn't going to alleviate the problem. The reason they smell is because their sweat is interacting with the bacteria on their skin. Try a good antibacterial soap and perhaps a diet change. I know a diet change might be hard for teenagers.
Amazingly, neither SD has a
Amazingly, neither SD has a lot of acne! I didn't when I was younger, either. I can't remember if Hubby did or not. Not bad enough to bother me, though, if I can't remember it!
I wonder if I buy the hibiclens, if they will use it? :?
We will be checking into that
We will be checking into that this weekend, to, then. SDs haven't had acne at all this summer.. they OCCASIONALLY get it on their for head, but haven't since last winter (when the water froze up for almost a week, and we had to bath in buckets in the bathtub!)
Oh, it SUCKED last year! The
Oh, it SUCKED last year! The water froze, then the hot water tank went out.. then the water froze the day we got the new hot water tank! I was so grateful to have hot water by the end of it all!
I'm trying to think of what
I'm trying to think of what is in our diet that might cause an odor, though. We don't eat a lot of garlic or onions, or stinky things. Do you think sweets would cause an odor?
I LMAO @ the ROTTEN on the
I LMAO @ the ROTTEN on the indsie!
There may be a problem with
There may be a problem with their diet. Sometimes you can get a bad chemical reaction from certain foods and it will come out as BO.
I switch between Secret and Toms of Maine. There is a lot of crap in regular deodorants but natural ones cause me to break out. If I switch it up then my body gets a break from all of the chemicals.
That's another issue with the
That's another issue with the SDs - they have allergic reactions to a lot of soaps, and fabric softeners. It SUCKS, because they get this from Hubby, and now NONE of us use fabric softeners in our laundry!
Are you sure they are
Are you sure they are showering/washing up adequately? It's not uncommon for teenagers to take "quick" showers or just "hang out" in the bathroom but not really be doing a good job at what they are suppose to be doing.
This is really gross, BUT.. I
This is really gross, BUT.. I have smelled their armpits, hair, and feet after their showers, just to make sure! The feet ALWAYS stink, but I have sat their and watched them wash them (sitting on the side of the tub) and they STILL stunk. Now that it's summertime, and they wear flip flops everywhere, I don't make them, but in the winter they have to spray deodorant on their feet, and put powder in their shoes.
Sometimes you got to do what
Sometimes you got to do what you got to do. I only suggested it because my DH didn't want to check on SD but eventually he realized she didn't have a clue about how to shower. He assumed BM taught her but she didn't.
I'd rather willingly smell
I'd rather willingly smell them AFTER A SHOWER, then have them stink me out, by surprise in the middle of the day!
I really HATE the smell of
I really HATE the smell of tea tree oil! LOL! We put it in their shampoo when they are in school, to repel lice, and use it to wash the dogs, to.
I will look up a good DIY, if the store bought ones don't seem to work, though!
Apple Cider vinegar might be
Apple Cider vinegar might be a good idea! We always have that around, so it will be cheaper then the Hibiclens, and more readily available! I wonder what would happen if you used that AND deodorant!
LOL! Good point! It would
LOL! Good point! It would suck to have it get WORSE!
My DIL has to use that
My DIL has to use that special deodorant by Secret or a knock off of it.
I use the mens right guard clear gel. Seems to work best for me.
Does the Secret work for her?
Does the Secret work for her?
Using a bar soap under their
Using a bar soap under their arms instead of bath gel can help to get really clean. Also have them powder under their arms after applying a solid like Secret. If you use the invisible gel solid, it's no good, you're just putting moisture onto your armpits. It will get trapped and stink also. Gotta stay dry, Powder Puff!

I wonder if Bath and
I wonder if Bath and Bodyworks makes a solid soap? That's what we use, because none of us has a reaction to it. I like dove soaps, but SDs both have a reaction to it, and if they barrow a shirt (even after it's been washed and dried) I watch them scratch all day!
Mitchum advanced or clinical
Mitchum advanced or clinical strength. Dont be afraid to have her use the mens ( I had to when the store didnt have womens). I had to use the mens unscented stick( not the gel) and it's amazing
Outtahere, I agree, it's
Outtahere, I agree, it's weird how different people smell differently! I'm a diabetic, and Hubby says I always smell sweet, even before I jump in the shower. Before I was a diabetic, I could smell when diabetics were getting high blood glucose. It smelled like really sweet soap.
I DO check (sniff them) after showers, occasionally. I am sure that they are washing up. BUT Hubby has really bad foot odor, and so do they.. so I think that there might be something in their diets or genetic makeup. Just have to figure that one out now!
Your SD doesn't sound fun to live with! YUCK!
Sadly, FDH has some freaking
Sadly, FDH has some freaking impressive foot funk. I mean DAMN. Poor guy. He had some weird surgery on his feet when he was little? like..3 or 4 years old, and they had to remove the 2nd knuckle from each of his toes. I dont know, I feel bad for him though.
Anyway, I send him to work with extra socks, so he can change they multiple times. And he powders his shoes too. I make him wash his feet nightly with stridex pads of all things. It actually has cut down 80% of the smell.
Have him use deodorant on his
Have him use deodorant on his feet, to, then. It is the only thing that has helped Hubby's. His feet have gone from making me gag in another room, to something I can stand, even if wrinkling my nose!
