The look on SS's face
Yesterday I stepped up our eating requirements a bit more. I served dinner at the actual dinner table (shock!) and we all three sat down together. I made mexican and gave SS5 a cheese rollup with a paper thin shmear of beans. He's never tried beans before (as much as I know).
DH and I had our normal pleasant time and finished our food in probably 20 minutes. SS5 hadn't even touched his besides picking at a tortilla a little bit. When I was ready to clear the table I took away most of SS5’s food, but left a few bites and said “You can be done with dinner when you are finished with this”
Then we got up and went about our day. SS5 was SHOCKED. DH and I didn’t even talk about it, he just supported me. We didn’t yell at SS or make a struggle out of it; we just left him there in the dining room with nothing to play with.
15 minutes later I came back to finish clearing the table and you should have seen the look on his face when I didn’t let him get up after clearing the rest of the table. He ended up sitting stubborn for over an hour, but he gave in eventually . When he was done I told him he could go play and the first words out of his mouth: I Want Candy. Nice try kiddo.
We made him wait for more food explaining that he had his opportunity to eat more dinner. After about an hour I fixed him more of the same we had for dinner, and he ate it. DH stuck with me the whole way. Love it.

Bravo! It drives me crazy
Bravo!
It drives me crazy when i think of BMs and SMs who are making several variations of a meal because of their picky eaters.
Everyone can have dislikes but unless I am feeing you haggis or choc covered crickets and mice, eat the food or leave it and starve until the next meal.

Wow! It's awesome that you had the support of your DH. I totally agree with what you did, however, if I did something like that, my DH would have told his daughter to eat it, then walk away and never check back, meanwhile, she'd feed it to the dogs. HELLO, can we say not making her accountable?????? I must admit, I'm jealous :?

Our dog is fairly new to the mix and SS hasn't figured out how to sneak food to her yet I'm sure that's only a matter of time.
On the upside, we have the only dog in the world who doesn't understand table scraps. She'll eat them, but she's super slow about it, like it's some mysterious magical food

I am a picky eater and I have one too. If I don't like it, I don't eat. If BS doesn't want to eat it he doesn't have to, but he gets nothing else. The only time I will substitute is steak, then he gets hot dogs. Too bad the 16yo won't eat the hot dogs anymore.
"When he was done I told him
"When he was done I told him he could go play and the first words out of his mouth: I Want Candy. Nice try kiddo."
UGH! I hate that!
They don't eat, and then an hour later when they finally clean the plate, they think they are entitled to dessert. Lol, makes me laugh. My SK3's do that almost every night. "I want candy". Yeah, right! If you eat like a big person, you get dessert like a big person. If you play and eat like a baby, you get nothing.
Speaking of "I want", we have been working on "Can I have.." or "Could I please". Takes a while when the BM doesn't enforce manners at her home, but that's off the topic.
