O/T - Professional grade idiocy. A rant.
Grrrrr.
Quick background. When I was on my late July - August road trip to attend my Uncles funeral, I hit a curb with my car. A big chunk of curb was broken and was kicked out into the road. I hit it late a night, on a dark road, after 3 12+ hour days on the road. I was less than half a mile from my hotel. The car was drivable, but the steering wheel was slightly out of alignment. Wheel alignment was straight and there was no tire wear after 2500 miles to get back home. I had a similar situation during a long 4x4 trip decades ago. I hit a wash out and bent an idler arm in the steering system. Then had to drive nearly 1000 miles home. When I got home last month I dropped it off at the dealership to get the alignment corrected and any related repairs done. They have had it for more than month at this point.
My insurance adjuster is a dumb ass. Truly inept. Insurance will not pay for brand new parts, the the dealership will not buy LKQ (Like Kind & Quality) parts. It is a 6yo vehicle. So I am buying the parts and taking them to the dealership repair department. Insurance has already paid me though the way under priced the parts. I have already jerked a knot in the adjuster's tail for that. That I have to buy the parts is not the issue. I get it. I was a licensed All Lines Insurance Adjuster for 20 years before I surrendered my license while we were overseas.
The current problem is that the insurance adjuster quoted the wrong parts. It has taken half a dozen phone calls over a couple of weeks to even get close to getting the parts ordered. That is still an unfolding adventure. This adjuster is lazy, unprofessional, and is proving themselves to be a flipping idiot. I am qualified to make that judgement because I was a licensed adjuster, worked in multiple states doing catastrophe work for various insurance companies. My automotive experinece is limited, but.... the discomfort that this lazy POS had when I blasted him with the language of the profession when he started bullshitting me was classic. I was not mean to him, I just let him know that he was full of shit and needed to do his damned job.
Which... he can't do, so I am having to do it for him.
Lovely shit.
Let me tell ya.
I am regretting letting my all lines license expire. Having an active license would make dealing with the insurance company, the dealership, and the parts supplier much easier.

How much money are we talking about ?
I get it. We pay outrageous insurance costs. It's either a fender bender or car is totaled . But it's just sometimes just easier to pay a few $ 100's. And get the car fixed in two days. You having your car in limbo for a month only hurts you.
People at the deal ship and insurance office both get in there car at quitting time and drive home.
If you add up all the money and inconvenience you suffered. I bet it's in the 100's already.
I always hated accidents because of the circles and hoops you must jump through.
'GOOD LUCK
Sorry to hear about your
Sorry to hear about your uncle and Hate to hear the adjuster isn't doing his job effectively
Please forgive me if this is not a good reply....but in the future maybe rent a car for longer drive and purchase with a credit card that includes car insurance coverage on rentals?
Just my opinion but the peace of mind knowing you don't have to deal with the nuances should accident/damage occur may be worth forking over couple hundred for a one time rental
OT - I've been renting for road trips since I was legally able to. One time I rented a muscle car for spring break shenanigans (ex college girls gone wild lol) and not to toot my own horn but I'm pretty good driver. So my destination was a fast paced high life city and people there drive like impatient bats out of h3ll. Some jacka$$ decided he can't wait the few seconds for me to turn left (I'm obviously waiting for oncoming traffic to ease up) and when I turn I hear loud screeching metal sound
Come to find out this fool come from behind me, tries to beat me turning (guess he thought I was "taking too long" to turn) and since I wasn't expecting someone to be cutting me to turn left, I didn't see him there and his car ran into mine
He tried to bribe me not to call the police but I refused his money and called anyways
Took pictures and turned them in to the insurance (using the credit card company car insurance so that accident never hit my regular car insurance and I didn't have to pay any deductibles or risk my rates going up bc if that uninsured idiot)
can't describe how thankful I wasn't hurt and how unbothered I was knowing it wasn't my personal car nor my insurance rates/deductible money on the line
anyways my fault for the long story and hopefully they resolve the issue for you as promptly as possible
The dealership tried to hit
The dealership tried to hit me for $6K but could not demonstrate that much damage to the insurance adjuster. I have a $500 deductable. Right now with the insurance estimate I will be out of pocket about $500 if.... the insurance estimate is accurate. If not, I won't be out more than the $500 deductable. I will have to hit the LKQ parts supplier to get the parts needed since Insurance just pays, they do not buy parts, and this dealer won't order LKQ parts.
Fortunately, I have nothing but time right at the moment.
That's good. Sounds like you
That's good. Sounds like you know what you're doing (based on your past adjuster experience) to keep them from trying to get over on you and good thing you have some time to handle the matter without overwhelming yourself.
