MIL, I am so sorry SS feels he should move up a grade early. The poor boy seems intent on lying and fudging the truth so people will like him. I am sure if he applies himself and work REALLY hard and does extra work we can certainly look at that for next year. Maybe he lies because he feels his relatives will not accept him just the way he is ... a little bit of a slow learner. I would prefer to call it a late bloomer.

The problem is his lying. It really has to stop or he could find himself in serious legal trouble in the future. I have no idea where he gets these genes. One can only guess. So we are concentrating on good grades and always entertain the advancement a grade if he is successful and ALWAYS being truthful.

And just as a side note I am very offended you would even consider that I would hold him back if he was tested out and up a grade. How could you think that of me? Haven't I always been an advocate of hard work and the the successes it brings?

Please check with me anytime he offers an insight into his life here that sounds odd in future. He is trying to make you like him by telling these lies and fibs. When all along we should accept him the way he is. But in saying that we also need to let him know lying and fibbing is not acceptable. I will be passing your thoughts and insight onto his teacher for the coming year.

And I bought 8 skeins of yarn today for his Christmas projects. He will have so much fun when he gets back!

Yes indeed! When we first got custody of DH's twins, boy and girl 11, they lied about their grades to their dad and I. DH was very upset but, as you do, we encouraged them to work harder. It's very unfortunate that some kids want the short cut to everywhere and attempt to get it by lying. That might have worked well decades ago, like a used car salesman was portrayed, or a con man would work, but today's standards are different.

My DH's kids lied to him for YEARS about their grades.... my DH thought they were absolutely brilliant. And then we had to do a switch around with primary mailing address for the school which meant their grade cards came here. Oh my oh my was my DH floored when he opened up their grade cards for the first time (probably EVER). One kid had barely a 1.0 GPA and the other had something like a 0.73 GPA.

All those years of lying.
