OT - As good of a parent as my BF is, his brother is the exact opposite.
I feel so sorry for my BF's poor nephews. Their father is truly clueless and gives a bad image to fathers everywhere. He is a parent of convenience, and on visitations his two sons spend more time with their grandmother (my MIL) than they do with BIL. [I call them MIL and BIL even though BF and I are not married because it's easier.] Some weekends MIL will have the children all weekend long and they won't see their dad at all.
He drinks, smokes, and does drugs, all in the presence of the children. He has told them things like he didn't want anything to do with them, he hates their mother, and is constantly asking them for information on what she is doing or what she says about him. He will walk out of the house and leave his sons in the care of whomever happens to be there because he is pissed off, wants to go get high or just get away.
He still thinks he's in love with the mother of his children and accepts her with open arms any time she decides to "come back". This lasts until he denies her money that she's asking for and then she reports him for violating her order of protection against him and he goes to jail again.
His kids, predictably, are already pretty messed up and very unruly at the ages of 3 and 6. It is sad but I really don't want my children to have too much interaction with them because of how they act, I'm afraid they will be a bad influence and it's not even their fault.
What inspired me to write this is something that I learned this weekend. BIL's EOWE visitation schedule is on the opposite weekends from BF's. So when MIL informed us that she needed to go home a day early so that she could spend time with BIL's kids, we asked why he even had them this weekend. Come to find out, he has them this weekend because he's NOT going to be getting them next weekend (Father's Day). He decided that instead of spending Father's Day with his kids, he's going deep sea fishing.
Maybe it's not as big a deal to some people, but I just think that Fathers should be spending that day with, well, their kids...?
