Another episode in the Twilight Zone
Things SO said/did this weekend that make me scratch my head
In the car with SO and SS9. SS is telling about a few new books he read recently. Kid loves to read. Kid is also failing right now.
Me: SS if you bring up all your F's and D's on your next midterm report, I'll take you to the book store and let you pick out any book you want.
SS: Really! Any Book!---He was really excited
SO: Well if you bring up all your grades, I'll let your play Call of Duty on the computer
And here I thought we were trying to get SS excited about something other than video games
------
SO has been talking all week about taking Skids downtown on Saturday for trick or treating. He tells Skids he has a surprise for them and tells them Saturday morning about trick or treating downtown. I spent all morning helping SD figure out a costume. Both kids really excited to go trick or treating a week early.
5 Minutes before we are to leave
SO: We don't have to go if you don't feel like it (I've been sick this week)
Me: No, I'm ok we can go.
SO: I really don't feel like going now.
Me: Well both kids are dressed and ready to go.
We went and had fun. Just weird that right before leaving he doesn’t feel like going and wants me to be the one to say we stay home because I'm sick.
-------
SO has been talking about how unhealthy it is to eat food out of the microwave. The only thing I cook in the microwave is baked potatoes and I melt butter. SO heats up coffee every weekend.
A few times Saturday morning he heats up coffee in the microwave.
I start preparing dinner
Me: I'm making baked potatoes in the microwave, do you want one for dinner?
SO: No, cooking in the microwave is so unhealthy, blah blah blah
So I make 3 potatoes. One for each kid and me. I make plenty of other sides besides the potatoes. I wasn't really hungry so I didn't eat my potato. SO goes into the kitchen to make his plate and eats my potato.
I don't care about the potato because I wasn't going to eat it. I just wonder if he forgot he hates the microwave now.
I'm still a little upset about the book/video game thing because I was trying give SS an nice incentive and SO just bumped on it but the other things I don't care about. SO was just weird this weekend.

I don't understand why
I don't understand why parents let their children play games that are not meant for them.

I agree. My SO used to be
I agree. My SO used to be upset if I said a curse word in front of the Skids. The day he bought SS Call of Duty, I told him if he ever dared correct my curing again, I would smash that game. I truly believe some conversations can't be explained thoroughly enough with the F word BUT the language used in that game is above and beyond too much for my taste.
My FDH is the same, he will
My FDH is the same, he will literally switch off a song because of lyrics but will play a mature rated game with the skid. I just don't get it.
The book/video thing almost
The book/video thing almost sounds like he wanted to "one up" you. You offered the boy a book, so he offered him a video game - assuming he would like the game better.
I'm wondering if he didn't want to go trick or treating so he was going to use you as an excuse. If you didn't want to go then no one would go.
Just wild guesses here since I really don't know your DH!
