Taking Care of SD16's Cat
The extra pet and responsibility that goes along with it that I never wanted. The litterbox we didnt have a spot or space to put is in my diining room of all places. When the cat was a small kitten it was in SD's room. She is supposed to feed and clean the litterbox every day. This hasn't been done. I'd let DH handle it but he probably wouldnt notice the smell or a hungry cat. I cant let an animal be neglected so i take care of it. Yesterday i told SD from now on I'm going to charge her 5 for everytime I have to feed her cat and 10 when i have to do the litterbox. She freaked out. Said we can get rid of the cat because she isnt paying me s***. Says she is sick of dealing with me and she thought I would be willing to help her out since she is busy with basketball and I just sit at home doing nothing anyway.it got even worse. I want to strangle the little brat. Havent talked to her in 3 days. She isnt sorry and has no plans to take care of her cat she had to have. DH had a talk with her which I want to roll my eyes at but then he said he is open to all suggestions I have. This is something new and I'm hopeful.

Re-home the cat
But don't tell her, just tell them her the cat ran off cause it was hungry. Then re-home, err I mean take any thing she leaves out to the Goodwill. Never mention that you know anything about the stuff she's missing. Yeah I would be just as sick of her as she is of you.
I would love to rehome the cat
Only problem is DD8 loves it like a best friend. Just mentioning the idea that maybe the cat would like a new home and she panics. The cat doesnt let anyone pick it up but DD is always able to pick it up and set it on her lap. They chase each other around the house and the cat always comes to her. She also helps me take care of it. Its frustrating. Never should have gotten this cat. Maybe I'm weird but I dont want the cat to feel like no one wants it so I'm nice to it.
The dining room? Why not at
The dining room? Why not at least in SD's bedroom if absolutely nowhere else more appropriate to put the thing? SD would certainly notice the box when the kitty uses it there.
No excuse, basketball or not, to not have the few minutes it takes to feed a cat. It's not like one can actually forget to feed a hungry cat. I've had cats all my life and can't remember a single cat that didn't meet and greet me every morning (half trip me don the hallway and on into the kitchen and the plop themselves directly in the middle of the table and/or kitchen counter).
I actually did suggest that to her
I did tell her it could go back in her room and she got even madder.
I thought maybe I'd taken it too far based on her reaction to my suggestion.
Sounds like you are lazy,
Sounds like you are lazy, stupid and do nothing just like me.
I don't understand?
I often miss sarcasm and jokes. Would this be one of them?
Lol yes sorry. My SD16 says I
Lol yes sorry. My SD16 says I'm lazy, stupid and do nothing like your SD says you should take care of the cat since you habe nothing better to do.
Hope you didnt think i was calling you lazy or stupid.
Glad I asked
I understand what you were saying now lol
Well, you have a choice.
Well, you have a choice. Were it not for your DD8 I would definitely get rid of the cat, but sounds like this would really upset her. So for me it would be either take the cat on as mine, or risk upsetting DD8 and get rid of it.
Hopefully you have only a few years more till SD16 moves out.
At this point
It’s DDs cat. They have obviously bonded and you are doing the care. It’s not SDs cat.
Maybe the knowledge of who’s cat it really is will help. Also, teach DD how to care for it (even young children can with a little help.)
The cat sounds delightful in how it plays with your DD. Maybe keep it and rehome your step daughter?
Why didnt you write in your
Why didnt you write in your original post your daughter loves SD's cat.
Tell you DD you are going to rehome sd's cat because SD is a rotten cat owner. See how that goes over, OK?
Put the litter box in a bathroom. IF there is no room in the house for the litter box why did you allow the cat to come in the first place?
I thought it was decided
DH and I talked about it. I told him we have too many animals already, we don't have the money to take on another pet, and we have no place for a litter box. The week before thst SS had asked to keep a dog and the answer was no for the first two reasons above. Previous to that a friend of mine had kittens and I said I wanted one. DH said we didnt need another pet and we can't afford it. I knew he was right. It was just a moment of wishful thinking i had. So i was shocked when DH went to pick up SD from a friends house and she walks in cuddling a kitten. He said she never got to have her own childhood pet.
I am wondering how many
I am wondering how many animals do you already have and what kind. I am also assuming you do not have a basement in your home since you do not have the litter box down here. Are there any closets you can put the liter box in and have a cat door or leave the door a little cracked to get in and out of. They also make these really neat like cat houses that cover up litter boxes and function as an end table. Try that.
I would tell your DH and the SD that the cats is now going to be your DD's period. Since it has bonded with her and and SD does not take care of it. SD might hate it but when animals bond with a human they should be with that human.
Too many pets
We have two other outdoors and sometimes indoor cats and one high strung playful american field lab who is like another kid. When she came home with this kitten we also had 2 more dogs and a bengal cat that my oldest SS and his girlfriend left with us. (They are hating on me and and DH right now because we demanded them to get their pets.) I've always loved animals and for the first time in my life I was sick of them. Now we are down to 1 dog and three cats.
I wish i could make one of those caticos kind of like a patio but for cats. I will look into alternatives for litter boxes. We used to have more money but some things out of our control happened and we are slowly having to get back on our feet. I told DH a kitten needs kitten food (turned out she brought home a maybe 5 week old kitten so it needed formula and I had to teach it to use the litter box.), toys, shots, litter, litter box, space, supervision, eventual spay and neuter, more shots, deworming, and flea treatment. Its all time and money. When SD wants something all reason flys out the window.
