We had our first session this week right as FDH moved back into his house and right before I left on business.

Things the shrink said that I liked:
Children need boundaries
The relationship is the core; the children orbit the core
Eventually children grow up and leave, but a spouse is supposed to be there forever
You will find things in each other that you do not like
You should be telling each other about yourself - not the other person
Even with a child involved, your partner has boundaries that need to be respected

Things the shrink said that I didn't like:
Irregardless (NOT A REAL WORD)
Your ex wife broke your heart and it sounds like you rushed into this relationship
I'm surprised to see you both here. People as young as you often choose to end it rather than continue.

FDH asked if I wanted to go back. I said yes, even though I'm not sure how to judge if it's helping. I asked what he thought and he said he didn't care -- but amended that to "It helps to have a safe place to talk, right?" if only he knew about this site...
