Dear Valued Users,

It's with a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of StepTalk.org on August 31st, 2025.

This decision wasn't an easy one. For over twenty years, StepTalk has been a source of support for stepparents around the world! However, over the years, the costs associated with maintaining and upgrading the site to remain secure, meet current standards and maintain availability have become unsustainable.

We are incredibly grateful for your support, contributions and the community you've helped us build. Your engagement has made StepTalk.org a special place and we cherish the memories and connections made here.

We would especially like to thank Aniki for volunteering to be a moderator and for caring so much.

Why does everyone blame the kid??

These are KIDS, living in difficult situations that they doesn't understand and can't control and very likely HATE. Why is it such a suprise that these kids act out and misbehave when they are allowed to VISIT their other parent? Not to make this a personal attack on anyone, but I do find it disappointing and disturbing that so many step parents and bio-parents give up on these kids because they're a pain in the ass. I know some of the kids have legitimately diagnosed mental/emotional disorders, which makes the challenge feel enormous, but they're still KIDS.

new to the wonderful world of step families

I am all new at this. No one in my family has been divorced or married anyone with kids from a different family, so I'm the first. My boyfriend has full custody and the BM has visitation, which she chooses to cancel at whim. I've been reading some of the other posts here and it seems pretty universal that most step parents have some troubles with the BM's. Question - how long were you with your partner before you met the BM? I've been with my BF for 9 months now and never met the BM of his son. She had a chance, once, but is so immature that she actually refused to meet me.
