The Move

Major Blunder's picture

So we got the move more or less complete, a few outside items still have to be grabbed at the old house.  The new house is complete chaos, nothing is where it should be, no order, no sense of standard operating procedure, just stuff everywhere.

My fuse has been extremely short as of late, not being able to get everything where it should be, little tasks becoming big ones and the children acting up ( or just being themselves) has put me in a bad state, a state I don’t like being in, the bad guy, the angry guy, not able to enjoy even the simplest of things.

I hated Thanksgiving, it was a wasted day, so much work could have been accomplished but instead had to do the big sit down dinner that lasts all day, I fumed most of the day over not getting any work accomplished, but that feels like most days now.

My Bride and I have to divide jobs, someone has to watch the kids so the other person can go to the old house to get loads, clear stuff out etc. I can’t lift and carry heavy stuff so most of the time I watch the kids while my wife does the heavy lifting, and that kills me from a masculine perspective.  Then to make matters worse when I try to a simple task around the new house, like hang a shelf, it doesn’t go as it simple as it should and I fly off the handle. Not good, it only adds to my already constant boil under the surface which also lowers my tolerance towards the kids who bear the brunt of my wrath then.

We had help with the “major move”, not as much as we needed and not in the way we needed.  My wife’s father , brother and nephew came to help but they just kinda grabbed stuff and threw it in the truck, we wound up having to throw a lot away once it got to the new house.  Plus my father in law got the moving truck stuck in my front yard and we had to have it towed out, now my new yard is all full of huge ruts I have to fix.

We get sporatic help with things but still not what we ask of others, no one will watch the kids longer than a couple of hours and we have to do all the driving, we get half ass help when someone comes over, or even worse my wife will have someone do one thing and send them on their way, when I could have used an extra hand for a lot longer.

The Skids of course are useless, SD20 helped on the day of the major move and I guess she felt that was enough, DW has allowed her to sleep on the couch a night or two when the plan is that SD20 was to help DW the next day, as usual SD20 flakes out and doesn’t do anything except leave a mess around the new house.

SD26 of course isn’t supposed to be around the kids at our house so no help from her either .

So bottom line my sense of humor is nonexistent at this point, and my temper and stress levels are through the roof, most of the time I just feel defeated and ready to cry.

Sorry I don’t have a more upbeat story for you all.

Moving can create as much stress as a death in the family. Take care of yourself, major.  Maybe the new neighborhood has some nice young men who could help you out for a few bucks.

lol Only the little old ladies in the neighborhood are comming around, haven't seen any nice young men yet, but I also rarely look around for nice young men, that get's creepier everytime I type it.

Will family not watch children because they are little beasts?

BMs family wont ever take the skids or come to any of their activities but they do everything with their other grandkids. I think it's just that they are unpleasant, bratty kids and they want to do holidays and such with them but nothing beyond that. They dont even do the skids birthdays. I must be a saint for putting up with kids that even family struggles to like and sounds like the same for you. You're buying yourself a place in heaven. Take care of yourself and take your time getting your house together. It will all come together but it is hard and takes time. Dont be hard on yourself!

So SD26 cant be around her own kids?

My family doesn't live in the same state and DW family is her  older brother, recently divorced and her parents, they will take the kids for a few hours but that's about all they can take at their age, so no one that can really help out for any length of time.

Oh and SD26 can't be with the kids unsupervised, she is considered a danger to them by the state and by us.

Just read my past Blogs for the Chilling tales of SD26, just don't read them alone , Mwahahahaha.

Moving is the worst!!! Trying to organize and find the flow in a new house (especially when downsizing) can take forever!! I am so sorry that you guys can't catch a break with some help from family. It always seems like when you need people the most - no one is in sight.

Sending big hugs and just remember, this too shall pass.

Thanks Just !  I know it will pass, right now my frustration level is at max, I'm blowing up at everything and everyone, I don't like being this person.

Major!!! Nice to hear from you!!!

I've always hated moving... I've moved probably 8 or 9 times in the past 5 or 6 years (I'm so good with exact numbers. lol). Every time it's miserable. Plus unpacking is nearly as frustrating as packing everything in the first place. I started purging my stuff. When I moved down here and got married everything I owned could literally fit in the back of my little Prius with room to spare. lol. It was easier with all the moving!

Sorry you aren't getting a break!

Thanks PA, if we moved that often it would be easier as well, but we were at the last place 8 years, alot of "stuff" accumulates after 8  years, my gawd it was bad and still is, most everything is in one of two out buildings right now till we can find room for it all.
