Teens take gun from fellow student

Just a quick post...there was a thread here somewhere (I'm rushed and will look later) about Texas teaching kids to fight back against gunmen in their schools....

Well tht happened in my community on Tuesday.
A 15 yr old was rumoured to be carrying a sawed-of shotgun in his back pack at school. Two 18 years olds jumped him..wrestled the back pack from him and turned it and him over the the RCMP.

....The sentiment with kis around here seems to be I'm not going down without a fight...

The follow-up on the news story...says that the 15 yr old just brought it to show it off... The media stated the incident matter of factly but there was an underlying tone/sentiment of "Way to Go!"

I question how far you should train or encourage civilians to play cops, swat or military roles..... Trained professional are the best to judge a situation and act accordingly..

Having said that....if your a gonner anyway ...you have nothing to loose.. 8 yrs old or 18 yrs old... it may save your life. But can a child make that determination? Depends somewhat on the individual child, his/her age and the how desperate the situation...

I have taught my kids some self preservation strategies...to avoid abduction... and to empower them to have options to prevent or escape harm if they ever find themselves in that situation.

I think many teens, because of the world they now live..have thought about this issue..discussed with with their peers..and would act.
