Nighttime accidents

DS3 has been potty rained since he was 2 and hasn't had an accident since shortly after. SS9 however, still needs good nights.
DS has never liked to be dirty, so it was a breeze when it came to potty training. He was excited about picking out big boy underwear and his own potty which he used maybe the first couple weeks until he asked to use the big boy potty and I just bought a step stool. I was very diligent when t came to asking if he needed to go and limited liquids at bedtime and he got the hang of it pretty quickly.
SS has been really hard to help. We only see him eow. When I first met him at five we bought him goodnights and it was nbd, lots of kids have accidents. During the fist summer we had him for an extended period of time I thought I could try to help him. This of course was before DS was born, but I treated it the same way. I limited nighttime liquids and and woke him early to use the bathroom, all that jazz. After the first few days he stopped having accidents. Success. Then he went home, and of course the next time he came over we had to buy them again. Eventually I stopped trying and just figured he'd grow out of it. No dice.
I finally stopped buying goodnights last year, they are expensive, and told him he needs to manage himself better and they were a crutch. (Dh wasn't a big help, if the poor baby wants a huge glass of water of course he'll get it, we can't let him die of thirst can we?! ). He started bring them with him from home. This was a huge deal as BM always sends him out the door unbathed, smelling of urine and in whatever dirty clothes he decides to wear, usually what he must've found on the floor a week old. So at 9 almost 10 he's still having accidents every night he's here. And he's so big now that it leaks and I wash sheets every day. I'm getting fed up with it. I've stared making Dh wash bed clothes... He's finally started to try to help and enforced the nighttime training but it doesn't seem to be helping. We can only do some much with a few days a month.
Thoughts??

16. Mine lasted until 1, nearly every night. NO LIE. Still occasional slip ups at 17, but now he will at least strip his sheets and try to hide it.
